just thought i post this to see what people are reading and perhaps i can get some recommendations for some good books. ill post my favourite authors christopher brookmyre colin Bateman carl Hiaasen Bill bryson i also like autobiographies The list of books i have read is huge and too long to list, i spend a fortune on them. so please post your favourite books or what your reading now or some good recommendations. Can the mods sticky this perhaps?
I have to say I love Bill bryson,I have a lot of his books,at the moment I am reading Notes from a Small Island.I just love his writing style.
it does have my laughing out loud when i used to be travelling home on bues etc. used to get some strange looks. Have you read a "A short history of nearly everything" top read. get the illustrated one if you can.
No thats one of his I have not read,I will put it on my 'to do' list. I absolutely loved The Lost Continent.
Reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the moment cos it was lying around at home and I'd never gotten around to reading it as a young fella, good book.
Reading one from Michael Crichton (ER and Jurassic Park fame) State of Fear. Its a fictional story about a Enviormental activist hyping up global warming for his own benifit. It's not bad. Read a few Harlan Coben books recently and really enjoyed them. So recomend me a book someone.
Reading Preventing the Future - Why was Ireland so poor for so long Tom Garvin...not much way through it yet but a good read..
Reading Four Four Two at the moment. Not a big book reader myself, mainly sports autobiographies, although have read a few Ross O Caroll Kelly books. Funny at the start however its a bit samey with the last few
so what does it say about why we were so poor? i can imagine the mention of our next door neighbours coming up in about oooh every third word or so
harlan coben been mentioned before to me. i must look into his books. State of fear is a good read. its jumps around the world and lot but is a good read. He has also another book out about genetic engineering as well.a good read read as well. the name of it escapes me. the Jurassic Park books are much better than the film. Crichton like his facts to be correct.
Bought "This is Ecstasy" for €5 at chrimbo. Its all about the drugs history, properties, effects, politics and the mis-information surrounding it. Not exactly a riveting read but here's 2 eye opening nuggets: In Switzerland MDMA (Ecstasys active ingredient) is prescribed to feuding married couples in order to restore some peace!!! Leah Betts, whose parents released a picture of her in a coma after taking ecstasy, actually died from water toxicity after drinking too much water and lowering her sodium levels. This has caused numerous deaths especially in females whose bodies cant cope with OTT efforts to prevent dehydration.
im a really avid reader..probably do 3 or 4 books a week. Love to read Thrillers, among the best ive read for those looking for suggestions: American Wise; Michael Connollys Harry Bosch series Lee Childs books starring Jack Reacher Robert Crais and Elvis Cole English wise; Mark Billingham with the character tom thorne Ian Rankins books on jack rebus They are all really good writers, with all their books based upon the fictional detectives named above. As regards sports biographies, just finished Trevor Brennans book, Heart and Soul, quite a good read, Dessie Farrels Tangled up in blue, brian corcorans every single ball, Neil lennos book man and bhoy is a really good read, as in paul mc graths. enjoy`!!...especially look into connolly and childs if you like a good page turner that throws up a few twists
jaysus i have only read 3 or 4 books in my life! a few years ago i decided to tackle lord of the rings after ten years of not reading......took me a year to read and then i lost the book with 2 chapters to go
I go through phases with books. I've read a few from each of these authors: Thomas Harris James Patterson John Grisham The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings - enjoyed them. If you like gangster movies then 'Boss of Bosses', Anthony Castellano's life story written by the FBI agent who took him down, is excellent. I read a book described as Goodfellas on the Mersey but can't remember the name of it or who wrote it. Autobiographies Joe Kinnear - Manager during the crazy gang days at Wimbledon Martin O'Neill Gazza Paul McGrath Roy Keane
I don't really have the patience for reading unless it something I am interested in like sport or money . When I was at school, we had Wuthering Heights and King Lear for the leaving cert. I rented out the videos and then read then learned all the exam questions from previous years and luckliy similar questions came up again.
i did read a book on the vietnam war from a vietnamees point of view last year when i was over there. absolutely excellent book but very very sad too what those people went through. shocking stuff that no war crime tribunals were ever set up for those yanks. can remember the name of it though
If your interested in Russian history try 'In The Court of the Red Tsar' Simon Seebag Montefiore...but then everyone will know where my Politburo references are coming from when I post..lol
