Anyone here a member of the Army, i applied this morning. I heard that something like 300,000+ applied for just over 270 positions.
its never 300,000 i heard 10,000 roughly the same amount that applied a few years back when they were recruiting
10,000 for 270 positions. That's tough. Especially when you take into account there's bound to be a bit of nepotism and good words put in for people. Get yourself as fit as possible so if you get to the fitness test stage you smash them. I'm sure glen can help you out in regards to the type of questions that might come up. All the best with it
very funny boys 15 years behind the belt now when i joined in 1998 not many people where interested there was a lot of high paying jobs out there.the reason i went for it was free medical and a pension after 21 years (ill be 38 with a pension).i done 10 years in the army then transferd out to the air corps its a great job, hard work at times but worth it
guilty as charged but thats only days sitting around the office there other days when we are doing real work
no mate it wasnt easy to get a transfer it took me a few attempts to get there but delighted i got one in the end
i just reasised i did it wrong, applied for a cadetship. should have applied as a recruit but that option wasnt there. Ill be 25 in October so dont think i have any chance now.
Mind me asking, what do you do in the Air Corps, mate ? My reason for asking is part being nosey and part because (and this is not meant to be insulting etc) I often wonder why Ireland has an Army - given we are supposed to be neutral ? I can obviously appreciate reasons for having a small navy & airforce, in order to help protect our waters & airspace ... but the army is land based, so can't quite decide why we have or need one.
Would not be up to date on the army but know they do plenty of work in Lebannon and the likes. Granted it's not like you will be sent to Helmund Province or Basra but it's not as handy as many might think. Know a lad who does months away from his family and has been in a few ropey situations. Serious question Glen, did you ever have to engage in live combat or let off a few rounds?
I'm a member.loads of the lads shipped off to the leb on friday from the east for 6 month tour of duty. Good luck with ur application, you'll need it,thousands in for it.make sure ur as fit as u can be for the fitness test as your up against the odds
