Anyone have tips or advice for C.V.s . Been sending of quite a few the last few weeks. Not getting any replies. May need to revamp. How can you get your C.V. reviewed?
    Any suggestions welcome.

Look at some templates on line and make yours similar.

A cover letter is a must.
Do not state your age, gender, nationality or include a picture.
Do say you are eligible to work in Ireland. Leave off any small jobs that you feel are irrelavant or that wont really help your cause. Don't have any time gaps in your CV, if you were unemployed, state that you were on jobs seekers etc. Shows your honest and stops them assuming you were in prison.

If you are getting a job based on previous experience that comes first, if your looking based on education stick that first.

Don't say what grades you received. Just state that you passed, and subjects that were done.

Always have a few hobbies, that show leadership, or attention to detail.

    Always state your computer skills.

Use Bullet points and keep everything short and sweet. for example

    (Job Title) June 2007 - May 2011
    (Position)

small paragraph 2-3 lines on role

Bullet points on skills needed/learned try to include at least 5.

And I'll end with a cover letter is a must. Also on the cv itself at the very top include a small personal info thing. eg,

I am currently studying xxx and hope to achieve xxxx and so on.

I review a few every week

    My tips would be
    - Personal Details, Skills Profile, Brief Education history (although highlight any recent relevant training) on page 1
    - No more than 3 pages in total
    - Keep it to snappy bullets points
    - No long winded sentences
    - Keep interests very brief
    - Ensure layout and spelling is spot on as some places you dont even get by HR with sloppy presenation.

Hmm, I would definitely include a picture and not include the jobseekers.
I suppose different markets look for different things aswell.

We hired one of the top recruiters from the States, and she's says no pictures, as some places may not hire you because of your ethnicity, or how hot you are etc. I have the jobseekers on mine, I used to always get asked about the 8month gap in my cv, now I can't. But that's personal preference I suppose.

Been honest here, any job I have applied for I have got called for an interview since I added picture and few other things like dob. The main body info didn't change.
I'm talking google Microsoft Ericsson hp and my current job.
So it can't be that much of an offset, unless you look like Spearing or Kuyt.
In saying that, I still fcuk up most interview.

I think that was more so for the not so pretty people, we had a woman in burka, and a few phantom of the opera types. Unless you have a great CV and good cover letter, if you include a picture, you will/are hindering your chances in Microsoft(I work here). Also I'd feel much happier knowing I got an interview based on my skills not because I included a picture. But if it's been helping, by all means keep doing it. I was just passing on advice that I received and it's stood me in good stead so far :)

To the LC results - No you don't have to put them in or the level done. I would just list the school and year you done it, and list the subjects passed.

    something like:

    St Kevins CBS, Arklow
    Leaving Certificate completed
Subjects: English, Maths, Irish, German, Business Studies, Science

If you're serious about a job your applying for you should be adjusting your CV for every job application. Go over the job spec and look at the skills and competencies they say are necessary/desirable. Make sure that your CV mentions each and every one of them:
Teamwork, ability to work on own initiative, creative etc...

It's a pain in the hole constantly changing your CV but every time you go for a job you are trying to demonstrate why YOU are the best person for the job. Give yourself half a chance by ensuring your CV matches the job spec so closely.

You can't just have one finalised CV and then send it in the same for every job. Don't forget some companies have recruitment software that scans all CVs for keywords matching what they've got in the job spec, if you haven't got those keywords your CV might not even be looked at by a human being!

I made something of a faux pas on mine when I stated I “had inexperience” in a particular field

But in fairness, that's a bit ridiculous. Can't see how it would/should hinder your chances and have my doubts that Microsoft could/would ignore a grad application with an excellent degree/results just because they are a bit on the chubby/ spotty side.

I would not include Leaving Cert results but maybe the average result.
Also don't just list skills, have them under headings,
I.e, word etc would come under computer skills.

Use spellchecker for both CV and cover letter, check punctuation and format paragraphs...do not hand write cover letter.

Adding a photo to a CV is very American! Not really necessary in this part of the world.

No need for Leaving Cert results (unless the job specifically requires it). If you've any 3rd level education then you can leave 2nd level off your CV.

The CV should start with your name, address, telephone number, email address, dob, and nationality.

List Qualifications, Education, Work History and Personal Info.
Education and Work History should be in reverse chronological order.

If you're emailing it then send an PDF file, NOT a Word file.
