People are having a go at the no side as not being able to say where funds to run the country are going to come from but with the Greeks about to default again, Spain about to need a bailout and France kicking up a storm we are effectively being asked to vote on a treaty that a blind man can see is going to be vastly modified if not scrapped altogether and to push ahead with the vote is crazy and typical of the head in the sand politics this government is ruling by. The french want a growth stimulus that Kenny will support, strange it never dawned on him to ask for this himself but I guess thats because he was too busy bending over and taking it from Europe all with a smile on his face.

Economists are almost certain that Greece are going to be bailed out again despite thumbing their nose at europe so if the EU cant afford to let a crappy economy go under like Greece there is less than zero chance they will let the Irish economy collapse when we have fingers in all the pies.

So all these scare tactics are exactly that we are being asked to sign away our future with threats to support a treaty that is already crumbling.

These 'funds' we are supposed to get access to are only to run the country we still havent been told where the money to cover the rest of the bank debt, interst repayments etc., are going to come from?

I'm going to side with Enda and Michael Noonan on this one, if they say we won't need another bailout then I believe them. Therefore no need to vote this thing in.

Anyone with a pea for a brain wouldnt have set a date for the referendum before the French and greek elections were held. So how could the dunces ask for a stimulus plan. This whole thing dates back to debt write off for the 3rd world championed by Bob Geldof and Bono who dont pay taxes in this country (I am open to correction on this but I heard sometime back that U2 mored their tax affairs to Belguim or Holland.) But we cant complain we voted these idiots in with no plan. They were going to get a reduction on the bail out and creat jobs and keep taxes down and shite all over us and they only kept the last promise.

My 85 year old granny told me yesterday there will be no money for pensions if we vote no. I don't know where this particular bit of scare mongering came from but if its across the board the pensioners will vote yes. Big Phil also scared her into paying her property tax that she was adamant she wouldn't pay.

It was no doubt something like 'we wont be able to provide services, like pensions, PENSIONS, PENSIONS' while talking to oaps

Worked for Bush when he threw terrorists and terrorism into every debate to get re-elected.

You have to love buzz words.

I'll be voting No, because all ive heard from Noonan and the government is scare tactics, and no coherent argument to why we should vote yes.
They dont even know themselves,France have elected a new socialist president thats spoken out against the treaty..what does our buffoons in government do?..They want to find out what he's going to do first.

Yes, we're bollexed anyway so a yes or no makes very little difference. I have no issue with running our budgets by Europe after the bollox the last govt. got us into.

Jesus, the stuff in Greece is unreal, 7% for a Neo Nazi party, scary stuff.

Not much point in even having an opinion on this I reckon.
A few people will oppose it.. most will just shrug their shoulders... it will be voted in and everyone will continue on, as before.
I really dont think it makes a blind bit of difference whether this, slightly vague, treaty is passed or not.

Fianna Failers are championing a yes vote, so that is is enough reason to vote no.

    Hi,

I've not voted on the poll yet, as genuinely haven't made up my mind.

When all is said and done, Ireland has made a complete bollox of running it's own affairs so is it really such a bad thing, letting the German's run our country instead ?

The flip side to the above being that once we sign it away, we will never get it back needless to say.

No doubt about it, we are completely shagged financially and there's no way thats going to change anytime soon. As long as FG/Labour are in Government, Ireland will continue to roll over and get it's tummy ticked by Germany so lets not expect anything different. I'd imagine FF would do much the same, while sadly SF don't have enough policital experience to realise that if they tell the German's to stuff it, then they need to have another back up plan ready to roll out ....

Aside from Ireland's massive national debt, we've an even bigger problem ... as Charlie once said "We're living beyond our means" ... every week, we're borrowing more money to cover the day to day costs of running the country & this is complete madness. The fact that the German's are lending us the dosh to do this, is even more mad but you do ultimately have to ask yourself ... if they are stupid enough to keep giving us the dosh, would it be rude of us to tell them to stop ?

I know the above is a little tongue in cheek, in parts .... but the truth is the damage has been done already, to Ireland. What we vote for now, won't really matter a hell of a lot in the near future -although could buy us some a favour from the EU in years to come, if we vote Yes.

Oh, one last thing while I'm at it ... I was really ticked off with Enda Kenny coming out a while back and saying there'd be no deal for Ireland, we'd not be bought etc - personally, I'd certainly like for the EU to have tried to bribe me and then get to make my own mind up ;)

Food for thought (for myself anyway).
