Looks like i may be moving over for good here as i spend so much of my time on business> Looking for places that maybe just outside Dublin that would be considered a decent place to live ? Good Schools, Shops etc, Would consider Dublin either.
I would say it would depend on your price range as such...for example if your budget is around the 400,000 mark and are looking for plenty of amenities, Tallaght or the surrounding area would not be a bad first start. It has a huge shopping complex, plenty of schools, luas line theatre, hospital etc...however if you have a higher budget, the Dundrum area will certainly tick all of your boxes and is certainly a quiet area...
I would go for somewhere on the rail line for a start, there are a few suburban jungle's here with no facilities so we can steer you clear of them.It all depends on your budget,if you are buying it is a great time with prices falling all over the country.
Santry is not a bad area and all the major bus roads go to city centre from it... also Drumcondra is not bad.... although I would say that
Anywhere on the Southside DART line is the best place to live. Particularly Blackrock and Dun Laoghaire. They have everything you need. Can be a bit pricey, but if you want the best, you pay for it.
When people say that I always suggest nice areas on the Dart line on the northside, places like Clontarf,Killester and Raheny. They are as nice and quite as most places on the Southside and a lot cheaper.
HAHA you must be a northside man!!Swords, malahide and Skerries are all nice places and have decent transport.
Hi mate Have a lok at this website, it shows the new routes for the Luas etc & might be helpful: http://www.transport21.ie/ Obviously, public transport is vital, so ensure you pick somewhere either on an existing Luas or Dart line, or somewhere on one of the new Tram lines shown on the above link. Here's the existing rail network: http://www.iarnrodeireann.ie/dart/your_journey/maps_and_zones.asp & Here's the existing Luas lines: http://www.luas.ie/network-map.php After that, it depends on what you need & can afford: - Proximity to city centre ? (sure, places like Balsbridge, Clontarf, Raheny, Rathgar etc are all ver nice - put expensive, do you need to be this close to the city centre ?) - Apartment / House - which do you need, obviously there's price differences amongst other things to consider - Access to work - do you need to be in a certain part of the world, to help you get to & from work more easily ? - Budget - sorry to be so blunt here, but everybody's got one. What kind of money can you spend, have you been approved for a mortgage in Ireland yet etc ? Come on mate, give us a few clues and we'll help all we can
Don't be shy to promote your own area mate. Baldoyle is a fairly popular these days with all the houses and apartments that went up around the new Dart station. Dunno when its to be opened but is the first park and ride facility I've seen in this country that looks like it'll deserve the name. Has good schools and relatively okay facilities for a suburb and still a local community feel with 2nd and 3rd generations there which I wouldn't underestimate after seeing some faceless concrete jungles. Besides the connections I have with the area I know college and work mates that have bought out there either in The Coast or Bayside with an existing Dart stop there. Access to town is good and also handy for airport. Its cheaper than nearby areas like Raheny. It seems to me a decent compromise between the prime areas that other people have listed (Clontarf is hands down my favourite area of Dublin by the way) which can be at ridiculous prices and the County Dublin/Wicklow/Kildare areas some of which are massively oversized housing estates built around what was once a little village e.g. Lusk, Lucan or all the areas further out. Personally I would say aim to get an area you like with transport links inside the M50 unless you have bags of money to be considering the prime areas that are being targeted here. Blackrock ! Yeah its handy alright, as you'll see soon enough from the prices there. Generally you could be better off renting at the moment even though those are rising too and see how things go. I know people approaching a year now trying to sell their property (thats southside by the way) and plenty that have had to take their's off the market. Mobility is at a all time low. You may want to live in Dublin for a while before making such a big commitment to buying.
Sandymount is a great spot, everything you need in the village, on the DART and close to town. Few nice pubs too. Slight problem is the astronomical prices though
Yea Baldoyle is a nice normal area with great faculties within easy reach. WexRed is a good person to give advice on this as he once posted the areas he lived in and its some list maybe he will post it again to give you and idea of his experience. I would also agree with what he says about Clontarf its a great spot but my fav has to be Howth.
Kilbarrack is the place to be in Dublin home to some of Irelands best films The Commitments, The Snapper and The Van you could nearly compare it to Hollywood coming to think of it ! ! !
Maynooth.... School, College, Train station, Motorway next door, Plenty of shopping in and around, there, Liffey Valley and Blanch Town Centre are not a million miles away. Houses are nice, quiet area too!! Its a little further than some of the area's mentioned, but it ticks every box.
I Recommend Lucan, Central to M50, liffey valley ten mins away, and improving all the time, and plenty of Reds in this area. I love it here.
lucans a good spot alright. alot of family live there grew up in greenfort myself right beside liffey valley ( im one of the good few) .
Many options to choose from, but I have to agree with JOE, TALLAGHT is your only man, everything you want close by option of the LUAS and the mountains on your doorstep. As the lads say its all about budget then you can look at location, location, location. You dont mention pubs? very important to condiser social, unfotunately most people I know in TALLAGHT need thier Pasprt to go into Town as they never venture outside the area. This probaly speaks for its self. If you do move over you'll be sorted theres loads here who help you - use your tickets. Welcome and settle in I hope tyhe kids enjoy it.
