Need to go to London some time next month for a medical for my US Visa. This will take place in Knightsbridge. Was looking at flights there (travelling from Belfast) and there isn't a big difference in prices to the different London airports but I'm not sure on getting into London, travel times & prices from these airports (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton and Southend). Never even heard of Southend before! Anyway if anyone can shed any light on what the best combo is I'd really appreciate it.
I always find Gatwick the best bet. You can pick up a southern train from the airport to Victoria for under a tenner if you book online and you are in Victoria in about 30 minutes. The its two tube stops to South Kennsington and change there for Knightsbridge
We went to the semi via Southend - it's 55minutes on the train to Liverpool street and that's £22 return....then you can get the tube wherever you need to be. It's 40 miles outside London but then I think Stansted is the guts of 30... BUT you might wanna try Aer Lingus from Belf City to Heathrow...Heathrow very handy with the tube.....
For me Heathrow is the best but also more than likely more expensive flights. A tube 1-6 zone ticket is about 7 quid a day and that takes you all over Landan. Stansted Express is handy but expensive at 25-30 return, the Gatwick Express is also not cheap. There are other trains from both all in all I think Heathrow is handiest out of those three. Luton is also another option.
Ta very much. Can only find flights from International and not George Best but Heathrow seems a good bet. Flights are about 30 quid more but then I guess I'd make up the majority of this by not having to pay 20-30 on express train, so i'd just have the 7 for the tube plus it won't be as time consuming. Cheers folks
There is a money saving dodge to getting the train in to Liverpool Street from Stansted. It involves buying two separate tickets. 1st ticket return Stansted to Stansted Mountfitchet 2nd ticket Stansted Mountfitchet to Liverpool Street. All Stansted Express trains stop at Mountfitchet a few minutes after leaving Stansted.
sorry aer lingus is international surely! my apologies!! Derry/Stansted could be another option but maybe not handy from your neck of the woods!! always dirt cheap but it'll cost ya in transport on the other side I'm sure!
Derry is actually handier for me but not good flight times. Same as Knock. Want to be in and out on the same day if possible
Cheers for advance folks. Ended up booking Aer Lingus into Heathrow from Belfast and back via Stansted the next morning. The old chain and ball got wind of it so going to stay the night with friends. She's never been to london so going to try and cram as much as we can into the day. What would everyone recommend to do? London Eye, Waxworks, Towerbridge, Buckingham, Shakespear etc Also looking to head to a show, my knowledge of musicals and maybe more importantly my desire to go is minimal so can someone recommend something that would interest the non-musical type?
Aye just had a wee look there and The Lion King and Thriller jumped out at me. If anyone has a good site to get tickets let me know cheers
Seen Lion King in New York on broadway (misses is big into Disney) and it was amazing show, well worth it. For London shows, can get tickets on ticketmaster.co.uk Seen Thriller in O2 Dublin too, another great show if your into Michael Jackson music, show is very well done
Anyone know what's the best ticket to get from Luton Airport to London? Flying in the Friday morning of the final and home the Sunday so prob get an open return? Have used Gatwick the last couple of times
You've to get an overground train from Luton airport and then the tube, the fact that you'll be travelling over 3 days would mean it'll be fairly pricey I reckon.probably best to ask at the desk when ye get there, they'll tell ye the cheapest option. I was going to buy an all day travelcard online for the carling cup final for £20 but I left it till I got over there and it was only £15 at the desk..
Landing in Gatwick half nine saturday night. Is it worth booking tickets for that Gatwick Express in advance or is it a vending machine job?Any price difference?Cheers.
get the regular train, costs way less takes about 5 minutes longer as stops like twice, which can actually be better depending where going.
Dont book Gatwick Express at all! Use southern trains, much cheaper and takes only 10-15 mins longer (if even) http://www.southernrailway.com/ Gatwick Airport to Victoria is what you want to book, then get tube from there anywhere in London City
