    Terrible news, a mate of mine was diagnosed with this when he was 28. He beat it thankfully but has since needed both his hips replaced and then recently got news that he got one of those dodgy hips and has to get it replaced again. Hopefully Petrov gets through this

    Fantastic player. Loved him while he was at Celtic. Crazy how this has happened some more very sad news soon after Muamba. My prayers are with Petrov and his family!

    He's at Villa park today, already announced his career is over, remarkable courage to show up today and face everyone after the most surreal 24 hours of his life.

    Absolutely shocked by this news. Stan is an absolute gent, I had the fortune and privilege of meeting him some years back after a Celtic game and he was first class. Always has time for the fans, goes out of his way to give autographs, have pics taken etc.

    Thoughts with Stan and his family, get well soon.
