Looks like this long awaited report is out today.... http://www.independent.ie/national-...herns-finances-due-today-3058056.html?start=2
I hope not, I am really wanting to meet him, maybe as I pass by him in my car, and shout "Ahern, your the worst Taoiseach this country ever had, you Tammany Hall bollix!" Naturally once I get this off my chest he can leave then.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammany_Hall
He used the same defence as john gilligan..we give him 26 years. We give bertie a Merc..driver..and €3,000 a week.
Good point, Juan. I'm not expecting a prosecution from this but if this shreds what is left of Bertie's tattered reputation then I will be more than happy. Although what are the bets on another teary eyed interview with Brian Dobson?
300m down the drain on this tribunal. It will be an utter disgrace if he does not serve time for corruption.
Me niether..as Ireland dont do white collar crime.Forgot about that dobson interview...cringeworthy indeed..and i wouldnt bet against you on another one down the line
This will come as no surprise. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/0322/breaking4.html Mahon rejects Ahern's account of source of funds In its final report, the tribunal states that: "Much of the explanation provided by Mr Ahern as to the source of the substantial funds identified and inquired into in the course of the tribunal’s public hearings was deemed by the tribunal to be untrue." The tribunal’s final report, published this morning, said Mr Ahern failed to explain the “true source” of lodgements of IR£22,500 in December 1993 and Stg£10,000 in June 1995 to his bank account. The tribunal said it rejected a contention from Mr Ahern that he “had no recollection” of lodging or seeking that the equivalent of Stg£15,500 in cash to his own and his daughters’ accounts in Irish Permanent Building Society over a seven month period in 1994. He had contended that he had the funds after bringing money from cashed salary and expenses cheques to the UK and having it converted into sterling before bringing the sums back to Dublin to be placed in a safe. The tribunal also rejected evidence from Mr Ahern that he was saving the sterling to go towards the purchase of an investment property in Manchester.
Don't think they can use any of it as evidence. A new investigation would be needed. It's a fcuking joke being honest, €300M spent to not even prove something we already knew - Politicians are corrupt. In any case, just like we were outraged at the kangaroo court Luis was tried in, I'm not sure what's different here. It's one mans word against another. Bertie is (in all likelihood) corrupt and a chancer but until he's found guilty in a court of law it's all hearsay. We're a great country for our tribunals and outrage shown afterwards but in all honestly nothing ever really changes.
Wouldn't hold me breath. He wasn't called 'The Teflon Taoiseach' for nothing - and if we aren't even trying criminally irresponsible bankers in the courts of law, we won't be going for a fish as big as Bertie. Iceland would though - which they are doing at the moment. AND they'd go for the bankers - which they've already done. Not us though, no sir-ee bob. This is Bertie's long awaited indignity, but like Haughey before him, he'll vanish off into reclusivity and out of the public consciousness in a Brando-esque kinda fashion. He certainly wont be mucking out in Cloverhill.
