Isent it time for us to show some faith in the youth system and does anyone else think that neither jay spearing nor lucas is up to the job in midfield , i hold out hope for henderson in the future , i think he will improve
Welcome to the forum mate, Firstly, last season I think Lucas had the best season he's ever had since he arrived at Anfield that's probably why he was voted player of year, and he was one of our better players up until he got injured so I think it's fair to say I'd disagree with you on that point, as for Spearing he may not be a world beater but he's a very good squad player, hard working, gives his all and has no problem sitting on the bench until he's needed, Henderson is one for the future, I have no doubt.
Bit unfair on Lucas to suggest he isn't up to the job of playing in our midfield. He's blossomed into arguably one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier league.
Up with Stevie and Suarez,Lucas is one of the best players at the club (baffled by youre statement to be honest) Spearing imo is not good enough but I fear that is due to his size.He has great passion but I feel is a squad player at best.
Can't believe Goredsox believes Lucas not good enough for Liverpool he was superb in every game until he got injured. Have to question why he believes this as was said above is he q real LFC supporter?
I obviously see different things to a lot of people on here when I watch jay spearing. In the past I've seen comments ranging from he can't tackle(not true)his passing is poor(not true)and he lacks stamina(not true). The one that appears to come up most often is that he's a championship standard player. He's played nearly 50 games for Liverpool and I can probably count on one hand the games he's played poorly(that's obviously my opinion)but what I don't think is open to debate is that he's put in a lot of very good performances in those games and last time I checked we were a premier league team. I honestly believe if he was 3 inches taller a lot of people's opinion of him would be different even though his height has little or no impact on the way he plays the game. His ball retention is excellent and his positional play from a defensive point of view has come on leaps and bounds, the way it only could by playing more games. If people don't think he should be in our starting 11,fair enough but out of all our fit midfielders at the moment he'd be the first one I'd pick. We need players like him in and around the squad to be succesful because you're not going to have world class players all the way through the squad.
excellent post , Jay would be my first name on the team sheet if I was Kenny , people only seem to remember bad passes he makes in games and dont see the amount of work he puts in
Lucas delight at annual award 6th Mar 2012 - Latest News http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/lucas-delight-at-annual-award Lucas Leiva spoke of his delight after picking up the Official Liverpool Supporters Club (OLSC) Merseyside branch Player of the Year award for 2010-11. The Brazilian international arrived at Anfield to a standing ovation from members at their meeting and he engaged in a Q&A session when he thanked them for their wonderful support. The meeting started with a moving silence in memory of Jessie Paisley before MC, Gary Flintoff from BBC Radio 5 Live, welcomed Lucas to the front table. Receiving the award from Kop hero David Fairclough, Lucas told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It is very special for me to receive this award, especially at a moment in time which has been a really hard time for me being injured. "This award gives me more energy and a lot of positives. The fans have given me the confidence and belief that I will be back soon, and I thank them so much for this award. "I always enjoy meeting our supporters. It's always good to listen and talk to them. I just want to get back playing in a red shirt now as soon as possible." Liverpool's No.21 also gave an update as he continues to work hard with the physios at Melwood following an operation on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He added: "My rehabilitation is going really well and everything is going as planned. "I'm doing a lot of work in the gym and working hard." Paying tribute to Lucas after presenting him with the award, Fairclough added: "Lucas was a clear winner of the Player of the Year and there's no doubt that he deserved it. "He mixed really well with the supporters and they appreciated his openness and approach and that goes a long way. "He never hides and the way he has won over the supporters is a testament to how well he has done and the impact he has made." The midfielder also picked up the prestigious Emlyn Hughes award from the OLSC, a trophy that has previously been awarded to the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Robbie Fowler and Sami Hyypia. Fairclough said: "Barbara and Emlyn Junior sent some words of congratulations for Lucas and in that message it came out about Lucas's approach, his passion and enthusiasm for this club - all the things Emlyn was very much a part of. "Emlyn was a fantastic player who epitomised the Liverpool spirit and I think he would be delighted to see Lucas win this award." Les Lawson, branch chairman of the OLSC, added: "It was a great night. It was so unfortunate when Lucas got his injury and was back in Brazil having an operation when we had our Player of the Year dinner. "He sent us a message of thanks saying he would come along to a branch meeting when he returned and he kept his word. "Lucas is one of the most important players in our squad and we just hope he can get back as quickly as possible into the team." OLSC treasurer Ray Hughes said: "Lucas is very fitting for this award. He was absolutely superb last season, going from strength to strength to be a key member of the team."
Lucas "o Monstro" Leiva Love the man, delighted with how he turned the doubters around, absolute vital part of the team, first name on ours and Brazils teamsheet. Future captain of both teams too. I reckon he'll be the man to lead Brazil to glory on home soil in 2014. No better man than him to do it too.
