Lads, does any on here do a bit af running. I started just after Christmas. I'm doing two 7k a week, and LOVING it. Should have done it years ago. Love the buzz. My question is I have a 5k run in the muck for charity tomorrow, what should I eat tonight. Any diet advice would help. Thanks Mark,,,,,

With the distance only been 5 k i am not sure it would matter too much what you eat with in reason, my mate who runs alot takes carbs in the build up to long distance running,

I'd agree with Gerry for 5K it shouldn't matter a whloe deal what you eat tonite within reason. Don't try anything your not used to as you don't want any surprises tomorrow. DO drink prlenty of fluids. Also don't eat too much. Try get a good rest up early and have something light a few hours before the race and a few sips of an energy drink before you set off.

    Best of luck!

Good luck tomorrow, only started myself last year and love it too..

As said above Pasta is always recommended a night before a race. I'd usually eat that and Porridge in the morning.

How are you getting on with the training? Are you still doing that run in the west?

Hate running. Kills me to do anything over 5k on the roads or in gym. Not a fitness thing, Just get bored even with music.
I could though play Footie for 2 hours every night of the week. Going to get one of Them pedometer jobs to see how long I run in average Astro/Indoor. One of the lads had one last night did just over 4.5 in the hour.

Running in the muck will sap more energy from your legs than in a standard 5k run (which you could run on an empty stomach in fairness), therefore you probably need to carb up slightly a bit more than what you're used to for a standard 5k.

to be honest. High pasta loads the night before a race do nothing to your energy stores, Just eata normal well balanced diet and avoid the booze etc. If the race is early in the morning get to bed early and make sure you are up in plenty of time to get some stretching and hydration done. Pre past loads for a 5k run would need to be taken greater than 1 hour berfore hand if you are to even think about having it digested.

One decent tip for running and practicularly early in the morning is to empty the bowels before hand. For that distance hydration be as important as eating. Once you eat well today and not eat greasy stuff you should be ok.

Started the running late last summer myself and loving it. Done a few 5km races and 10kms, even ended up doing a half marathon on a training run one sunday morning. Did the Hellandback 10km at end of January in Bray and it was brillant. Taking on with a few duathlons shortly.
