Paul, you need a third option, those in rented accomodation or who otherwise have a waiver and dont have to pay it.. it would give a more complete picture..

Is that not half the problem in Ireland. We bend over and just accept the taxes and charges that are thrust upon us. No matter how unethical they are?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m as bad as anyone. I’ve not been to any protest so this isn’t aimed at you personally.

This household charge will not be used to help improve local services. It will be used to fund unsecured bondholders and other debt we did not incur but are being forced to repay.

The Greeks took to the streets and wrecked the place, they ended up getting a massive right down on their debt. The Greek ministers were able to say to the Merkel and Sarkozy, our people will not accept this, we need some gesture of goodwill from Europe.

At the moment Enda Kenny can’t say that. Ironically enough, if we did take to the streets it would strengthen Enda’s position when he’s in Europe trying to negotiate better terms for Ireland (if he ever grows balls). Like this referendum coming up, a no vote from Ireland, will cause problems for Europe. Enda should be able to say to the European leaders, give me something to get my nation on-side and they’ll support the referendum.

"Luckily" in a designated ghost estate so am exempt but wasn't going to pay. I strongly believe the government have to address the massive gap between their income and outgoings and start addressing the outgoings before further "taxing" the public. Stop spending €50 fcuking grand on printer cartridges for a start.

Still not sure about whether to pay it or not so will probably wait until the last minute
to see what the general consensus is.If we pay the €100 this year you can be sure
that we will be paying more than that next year.

No I am not paying I have said it before no one would mind paying if it was going to sort out the mess. I know some lads on here work for the state but there is far too many people working for the state getting paid far too much for doing f**k all. We have priced ourselves out of the manufacturing section so we are left with research and IT industries mainly. This is not sustainable what happens when the far east gets up to speed with these the multi nationals will head there too. We are a small nation we need to act like one and start paying according to our income

Not paying it. **** them, will happily take jail over it. I agree in principal to a property tax, but what is proposed is not right or fair. I earn just tover 400 euro a week and my wife is out of work, yet a billionaire pays the exact same same as me!!! How the **** is that fair???

I have a second home that I have to pay management fees on (for local services), a non principal private residence tax on (for local services), and now a property tax on (for local services).

I was foolish enough to sign up for the NPPR, but I won't be paying the property tax (on either house).

The local services in my area are quite poor and FG/Labour have no real interest in any emails I have sent them about it. I'd like to know what they intend to do with the tax first and would want them to be held accountable for where all the money goes. They have wiped out a lot of the local services that we had and are only going to cut them further in the next budget. Any infrastructure development plans were cancelled.

As others have said it's really just a bank guarantee tax.
