I know these checks can tell you if a car has been clocked, financed etc... But do they tell you if the car has been involved in an accident?
If you're buying from a SIMI garage, which to be honest you should be, then you can get this free report from the garage. If they won't give this report to you, be worried. http://www.simi.ie/consumer_information/car_history_check.aspx I am fairly sure if you ring your insurance company and give them the reg of the car you are about to buy they can tell if it's ever been involved in an accident. It's in their interest also that you don't buy a wrote off car.
If you know a garda they can check in two mins Did this before bought my car and could tell me how many hows it had, their addresses, and other details. My car hadnt come to their attention before which was good thing
Those checks are mainly there to tell you if it's been in an accident... A garage is legally obliged to tell you if it ever has been, provided you ask. If you don't ask them, then they don't have to tell you.
Thanks lads. I know I can find out if the car was written off but I was also worried about less serious accidents. I wouldnt trust the word of a dealer/garage so I'll try the insurance company.
