I read abot this a while back...it's very interesting as it erodes the separation of power in the US which is guaranteed by the Constitution...to give power to one entity not directly voted by the people in a referendum is a scary thought, especially when you consider the expansive powers and budget...

I dont know if any of you watch Boston Legal the comedy drama with William Shatner but David E. Kelly that writes most of the episodes is Anti-Bush, Anti-US Government, Anti-Republican and actually makes a point every couple of episodes of attacking them and highlighting issues the general US public dont know.

A couple of things he's highlighted over the last year is that if you volunteer for the US armed forces or reserves now there is a loophole that instead of only having to serve 5 years and be done the US can now force you to serve for 25 years without recourse, also over 100,000 serviceman and women have been kicked out of the armed forces for being gay despite the US being desperate for soilders.

There was another episode that Denny Crane (William Shatner) was banned from flying because his name is on a no fly list but it wasnt him, the way it works now is if your name is on the no fly list it means that everyone with the same name is banned from flying.

He's also done numerous episodes on various parts of the 'Patriot Act' and Getmo as well anything of which he claims you can google and find its fact as I have done a few times as I didnt believe some of the stuff.

Its amazing that in a country all about freedom, free speach and democracy and 'supposedly bringing freedom to the middle east' that citizens in the US can have their rights taken from them without their knowledge or recourse.

the dumb asses havent had freedom or liberty for 50 years over there. they think they do until they actually read their new laws. the government its tightening their grip on the people daily. They are on their last chance to get out of this mess with the republican candidate Ron Paul who the controlled media like fox and cnn will not cover and try to shoot down because he is the only threat to the establishment.

another thing. if you think this doesnt effect you or it will never happen here.....just keep voting for a more "united" europe and hand you powers and liberties over to people you dont know anything about and before you know you willl be in the same boat.

You are SO RIGHT! Unfortunately Ron Paul will not win this time around. But he has MASSIVE grassroots support, and his ideas are spreading to the young and disenchanted ... he is really changing the public dicourse here, it's incredible ... Republicans AND Democrats able to agree with and support the same candidate, Ron Paul??? Almost unheard of!

Be forwarned that thanks to the EU, the weaker or less influential member nations are dumping their soveriegnty down the drain. I've been watching as many nations are submitting their own laws and customs to those forced upon them by the EU. It's just like the U.S. ... many of us vote strongly for 'states rights' but the federal government has become too big and powerful ... they literally blackmail and bribe states into submitting their sovereignty and the state becomes weaker and weaker and unable to make their own decisions ...

Shortly after this nation was founded and for many decades that followed, the U.S. was viewed much like the EU. A group of affilliated, yet mostly independent states that made their own laws and used their own currencies and kept their own militias. Our constitution, much like that of the EU, reduced or eliminated interstate trading tarriffs and provided for the 'common good'. But within 100 years, the U.S. was not viewed as a group of affiliated states, but as a cohesive unit. Laws were now imposed by the federal government, states rights were reduced, a national currency was adopted (the weaker states suffered and still do today, wow that sounds familiar guys), the state militias were superceded by the U.S. Army, Navy, etc., and now the concept of sovereignty is completely gone from the individual states ... it was a slow progression over many generations, but it happened nonetheless ...

We have to smash the upcoming referendum!!!

LADS VOTE NO in this mother f**king Lisbon treaty. This is a very serious treaty which will effectivly be the beginning of the end for national sovernty for every EU country. So much for a united ireland this will take away ireland as a state for ever i kid you not. Never mind your rights taken away and liberties locked down by someone you never voted for and someone you dont know. Why do you think there is nothing in the news about what is actually in this treaty??

    read some quotes here.......

Thanks for the lisbon treaty stuff Jockster.

I've heard it mentioned on a few radio shows. Seems the gov is slow to start up a campaign to actually inform people what it is and seem somewhat reluctant to start up an awareness campaign.

Exactly mate.....they want a yes vote thats why and the media are doing their best to not promote any oposition. this is a very dangerous treaty and we one of only 2 countries (i think denmark) in europe to have a referendum on it, because its in our contitution. Vote yes and we wont have a constitution in the future and will be ordered what to do in the future. We will have no one to blame but ourselves if we vote yes.
