With Momo looking like he is going. Who was the last player we bought (not a youth team product) and sold and actually made money on? I am not sure of the answer myself.
This I think is an aspect of our club that Rafa hasn't got enough credit for. When I think of the donkeys Ged signed and we had to give away for free or minimal fees with the loss of millions it drives me mad. However we seem to be getting a much better return on our players nowadays, even the ones that Rafa has brought in and moved on (quickly I might add) as they weren't up to it. When he took over at first I remember this question being asked elsewhere and I'm sure the answer was David James ....... we had lost money on every transfer for years up until then!! We now have a situation whereby we could double our money on Sissoko, get £10m for a reserve keeper we bought for less than £1m and if Crouch goes in this window we will definetely get a profit on him too We never have been or hopefully will be a selling club, but with money being so hard to come by for transfers this is a vital revenue stream which we really haven't had previously - long may it continue
Scott Carson was bought for 700k if i remember rightly so if we get 10million for him in the window surely that will usurp them all???
Will certainly run it close alright - isn't it great that we are even having this discussion instead of - how much did we lose on Diouf, Diao, Cheyrou et al IF we get this high a price for Carson then obviously financially it is streets ahead, however if we can get £11m for our 5th choice CM who's form has been awful for some time .... which will go towards signing up The Chief permanently - this will be massive for us
