Hi everyone.Ive been a smoker going on 10 years, and like most smokers have tried quitting but failed.Have been reading up a bit on these champix tablets and have spoken to at least 10 people who have given up thanks to taking them and obviously with added willpower.Ive read that the side effects can be quite bad so was wondering if anyone on here has taken them or knows anyone who has because I'm going to quit fingers crossed
There was a discussion on the radio yesterday on the last word, the presenter spoke about people quitting and he himself (some guy from the times sitting in for Matt Cooper) had quit using the champix tablets, didnt mention any side effects, what did you hear Frank?
I've tried them twice. I know this sounds like a contradiction, but I found them the best help of anything I've tried in trying to quit. There are some side effects though. Some people, like me, have vivid dreams (it's quite weird). Another one I had (worse the second time) was it upsetting my stomach - I had to take one after eating or I felt ill. I won't go on them again, but that's because of a report I read some time ago linking it to liver damage, and this as well. I need to quit soon though.
I heard a few reports about people feeling depressed after taking them and a few people having vivid and bad nightmares and also bad nausea. Really considering taking them but trying to suss out a bit about them first. You signing up with the lads for soccer again by the way?
Well im half depressed all the the time and my dreams are pretty crazy anyway so maybe that would counteract that? The discussion got me thinking about using them aswell. Id say ill sign up again, got to win the MVP award this year , you signing up?
Ya there seems to be mixed reactions on them alright but I've heard halving the tablet can eliminate most of them apparently.Havent been drinking that much lately so the liver could do with a wake up call I really need to give them up as I'm saving for a house, getting on in years and want to be free of the clutch they have over me once and for all.
You should be all hap with your new tv ya you should kick them too so I wont feel like smoking when I call to yer place. Might give it a skip because I can't miss training .
My other half's aunt tried them and said she became quite depressed and had very weird dreams. Other people I know just had the weird dreams. I would say it is down to the person taking them.
Ya I'd agree it's probably centred around the person but if they have that effect I presume it goes when you stop taking them ya? From my experience in trying to quit the weird dreams are a given even going cold turkey. The worst side effect I experienced is from eating mints and chewing gum and taking up the role of trumpeter in a marching band
A friend of mine tried everything to get off the smokes including champix but the only thing that worked was the niquitin 24 hour patches, she's off them about 4 months now.
I was a smoker for 13 years smoking between 50 to 60 a day in my final few years. Then tried champix for 3 days got the flu on the 10th of Jan 2010 and guess what haven't smoked since. Its all about the want to give up. you really really have to want to give up or your gonna fail imo.
Ya but when im stuck at home watching my crappy tele dreaming about the new one im sad haha You should sign up anyway and come up when ya can, Paul terry etc. are back and I can see myself kicking a lot of posts
Jesus Frank thats serious puffing, I smoke approx 10 a day and think its desperate, dunno how you would have found the to spoke that many unless you have a ciggie in your mouth all day.
Spot on Frank - you have to be in the right frame of mind or you'll never give up. Well done btw - dont ever be tempted back to them.
Are they the same ones, your doctor gives you? If so my auld lad was on them. They cost a fortune i think. It worked for him, and he was off the smokes for a couple of years. But every now and again he would get a craving for one, and he wold have a cigar, and then he started back on the smokes.
Ya theyre the ones. You need a prescription and they cost about 180 euro a month!! Obviously willpower is still required but I don't think I could do it on willpower alone.I suppose there's always a risk of going back on them but I'd say if I could go a year without them I'd stay off them.
I worked nights for 10 years so would have around 20 while I was working and then be smoking while at home also
- dont ever be tempted back to them.[/QUOTE] Was tempted once was at a concert and there was a group of about 20 and everyone smoked but thank god i said no coz prob be still on them now

Anyone smoking should come in and see some of the people I work with. Men and women, some as young as forty, dying. Heart disease, PAD, (like heart disease in the legs), lung disease. The common denominator with almost all of them is smoking. Some have 2 years or less to live unless they get a lung transplant, some can't walk for more than 2 minutes without having to stop and let the pain in their legs ease, others have to carry oxygen with them everywhere they go. Some have young kids that they can't even kick a ball around with. To think that with a lot of these people the diseases are self inflicted from smoking is just crazy.
