Folks, I have a quick question. The house alarm went off three times last night during the night. Twice when the alarm was on and once when it wasn't even on. Does anyone know the reason for this? All doors and windows were locked. Was just wondering is there a battery in the alarm itself that maybe running low and the alarm goes off just like it does when the battery is low in a fire alarm? If the battery is gone can I just change it myself or will I need to get the people who install the alarm to fix it. All comments gratefully received. Lets just say the missus was freaked out last night.

    Thanks.

Yes, they have a battery, they are usually quite big...I would advise getting a guy to do it, checkout tradesmen.ie

Put the make and model into google and see what it throws up. It may be easy to change.

Do ye think that the reason why its going off for no reason is the battery being dead in the alarm? Cheers

Normally when a battery is faulty or empty you would just get an indicator on your key panel to tell you this. Not the actual alarm going off.

You could also have a faulty sensor or contact too. How old is the alarm?

    Hi,

It could also be one of the sensors are faulty.

What sort if alarm is it - for example, is it a monitored Alarm like Eircom Phonewatch or ADT for example ?

Also, does it have cables linking each of the sensors at each window or door, or are all of the sensors wireless (there may be a break in the cable, if they are cabled ... alternatively, wireless systems often have a battery in each individual sensor).

No doubt about it, you want an Alarm technician .... perhaps get someone from one of the companies who sell new alarms to send a sales guy out, they are often well able to sort basic problems and may not charge you if they think they can get a sale of a new alarm out of you etc.

    LOL :D

it may also be very sensitive to vibrations. Esp if the house is 16 years old. There may be some movement in the windows. wind or heavy traffic going by can cause this

Thanks for the help lads. Getting the crowd who installed the alarm to come out.100 blips call out charge. They better be able to fix it for that price! I also have ruled out the possiblility of it being the borrowers but might run it past the technican in the morning just in case haha.

Got lad out to fix it this morning. Think a few of the sensors were a bit loose. Was no harm in getting it checked anyways. At least we hopefully won't be woken by it in the middle of the night anymore!!

We had a similar problem - the missus was freaked out as she slammed the door of her car and the alarm went off!!!!

Faulty sensors were the problem but the look on her face....priceless :D:D
