In the garage today and paid for a few bits and came to €2.99 handed over €3 and waited for my 1 cent. While i was waiting for her to take it and rummage around for the 1 cent i was thinking why bother it makes you look like a tight arse or on the other hand its my change and i will have it thanks very much! I have on previous occasions walked off and not bothered waiting but decided today i would wait. Thoughts please...
i never really wait for it. if i get the change then i just put it into the box next to the till for charity. don't like the one cents clogging up my wallet
always wait for my change, bring it home put it in a money bag and save them until i get a few quid only lodged a 10er in 1's into the bank today that a burger and chips for me tonight
ha thats alot of effort mate but fair play. Lately i have been in tesco with all me coppers and put them in the self service checkout and then pay the rest with laser , sorted
yeah thats another great option it lets you get rid of all your change without your one looking at you counting out the change
years ago when one of the nieces was small she gave me this savings tin thats like a giant can of carlsberg.i still have it and everything from 50cent down gets thrown in.if i need change i can dip it but i generally let it build up and then bring it down to one of them coin sorting machines in tesco and bung it in there.they take 10% commission but last time i done it id €70 for myself and it wasnt even near half full
Never wait for 1 or 2 cent. I tell the cashier to put in the poor box. It would be far better if we had rounding like Australia. I know most things will be rounded up but it would be worth it to see the end of pennies.
I usually tell them to put it in the poor box. But I also have a think about what I think they would do if I was a cent short. If I think they would demand it then I'd wait for my change and then put it in the poor box.
I've something akin to a large jam jar/small paint pot filled to the brim with almost completely coppers, maybe the very odd 10 or 20c. I wonder would I get an auld silvio's out of it tonight? P.S. I read your post thinking you were an absolute mingebag and then realised I've been doing it myself all along!
Would depend on the circumstances. I'd never let the likes of Tesco keep my money but a smaller local shop I'd let them keep it. Missus works for Dunnes and she got over €600 worth of coins changed before our wedding, it was about 4 years worth of coins. Poor girl had her back broke carrying it
yeah it maybe only a cent to start with but it turned into a 10er today nobody would say to a shop keep the 10er
Never wait for 1 or 2c. Have a jar at home that all 20c down goes in, its huge and usually has about 80-100 in it when I cash it in.
Here's one that used to fu*k me off constantly, and took me some time to get used to. In Canada, the displayed price does not include tax. So you can be looking at something, that has $19.99 on the price-tag, and think to yourself 'Deadly, down to my last $20 note in my pocket so I'm sorted'. Then you get up to the till where you are informed that your total is $21.72. Why not just put the full fu*kin price on everything di*ks, its not as if the consumer doesn't have to pay it.
After noticing that in a few places here since the VAT went up from the new year. Some places still haven't gotten around to changing all their prices and you then have to pay the extra 2% at the till.
ALWAYS wait for my change !! Put it in a jar at home and give it charity at Christmas, always adds up to a fair few quid.
Every cent counts as far as I'm concerned.Plus I have yet to be told at a shop sure it's only 1 or cents don't worry about it.The amount of times I have had to break a 10 or 20 quid note for the sake of a couple of cent is ridiculous.I save all my coin throughout the year and cash it in before the turn of the year.A percentage of it goes to charity and the rest goes into my back pocket. One year I had over 1200 quid which I converted into SA Rand.It made one hell of a 2 weeks in Cape Town. This year I will cash it in May and will hopefully cover the cost of a flight to Windhoek.
i put it in the charity box at the tills but always get it back at the petrol pump i always get €10.01 or €20.02 (probably doesnt actually add that last drop to the tank though) and just hand over the note
