There should still be a battery in it, there is in mine anyway for some reason, even though it runs of the sparks..

It's incase of a power outage or electrical fire, there is a fail safe ;)

So the beeping is because the battery is dead.

The battery is there for extra safety, if for any reason your electricity gets cut off or goes the alarm will sill sound if there is a fire. The beeping is just an indication for you to change the battery.

If it says 'do not open' and you cannot get access to the battery, then once it goes, the whole unit needs replaced.

the ten year battery thing makes sense lads because it has stamped on it replace by 2013 and the installtion date of 2003 on it.like a lot of things in my house its probably from bloody liquidated stock.the builder got a heap of stuff on the cheap when i moved in the bolier wasnt working right so to speed things up i got a friend of the brother in and he never seen a bolier like it before.the brother works in a heating and energy place and looked into it for me and the company making them had gone bust just before the estate was built!!

anyway i think ill defo go buy a battery one id prefer them anyway i never realised what we had was electric!

I just had a ten minute battle with our one (burned rashers), and then i remembered yer post from the other day.

Yeah, the fact they are "wired" was a surprise to me as well. But you can see the logic behind it.

Ours started randomly bleeping one night and we took the battery out and then realised we didnt have a replacement.
I never wanted to batter something with a huge stick, so much in my life.

Oddly enough, I was fcukin about with it at 4am and it suddenly stopped bleeping.

I think the cover had become slightly loose and it just bleeped because of that.

Certainly wasnt a battery issue. Because the little bollix is still alive and kicking
