I was just watching an old episode of A league of their own.

And they mentioned that Manchester United had debts of round 750 million.

I seen somewhere recently they had debts of 1.5 billion and rising.

Surely this isnt sustainable? Didnt we have debts of around 500 million and in major problems.

Just for the record Im not one of these Man Utd obsessives I just find it crazy and wonder why its not that widely reported.

They've massive revenue aswell though so they seem to have no problem managing the debt.

Because they are still successful, As soon as the success drys up and it will because the last few transfer windows ( this summer aside ) have proven they dont have the money to spend. It will all bottle neck pretty soon and then fergie will retire and everything will come out.
I honestly think they are in for a massive massive fall worse than we ever were

Trouble may be 1, 2 or 10 years away but its coming down the road no doubt about it. If the Glazers stick around long enough for the club to buy itself then you can be sure they won't give 2 ****s about who they sell it too. Then its in the lap of the gods as to what the new people want to do but you can be sure the 2bn or whatever it costs will be borrowed to pay for it.

When the green and gold campaign was at its strongest point (Beckham posing with the scarf) it need Whiskey Nose to step up to the plate but he took his pieces of silver, thankfully:)

    Bang on.

The Glaziers also paid off a massive amount of their debt so their interest payments have been cut massively.

Read somewhere that their ticket sales alone for a home game they make over £1.5 million, tickets alone and not including any merchandise etc sold.

The scum are too big commercially to go bust, once the Glaziers are forced out, some Sheikh will step in and buy them.

I don't think so at all to be honest with you. They're one of the most successful clubs in the world and they're constantly around the top of the earnings table and I think I remember reading recently that they're the most valuable sports club in the world!

If they're in trouble there will be a line of suitors lining up around the block to buy them!

I genuinely believe that they have come through the worst of their financial times and will be back spending serious money in the transfer market!

Heard it all before, and they are still second place, only 3 points off top.

Utds revenue is round £300m with profit of around £60m last time I read , only trouble I can see is that the glazers might at some stage have to sell but utd will always find a billionaire buyer .

Less champions league money will effect them but IMO we need them out of the top 4 to put some decent pressure on them
As I said my worry is the glazers can hang in there and clear the debt and have huge income at their disposal .
And it's that huge Revenue that will easily save utd with the glazers or new owners

Only utd out of the top 4 for years would put them in major trouble

    Most recent info 2011/2012
Utds staff costs have gone up by 12.5% to 51.2% but that's a decrease from 53.2% as their income has increased again ( revenue revenue revenue)

Net spend on players £47m -

Cash balance down from £150m to £65m

Gross debt down by £83m to £433m

Net debt £368m up £3m on last year

Consider the Glazers have paid out £578m to date on their financial model

if you look at what happened to lfc it diddent happen over night it happened over a period of time getting to last stages of the cl next thing new players we were buying were getting cheaper and cheaper the good players we had started leaving. missed ot on the cl utd are a bit away from that but when you start bringing back 37 year olds out of retirement it smacks of desperation after fergi said his squad was good enough and no need to go to the transfer market. a multi billionere willnng to subsadise a team like utd imo are hard to get these days and take a look at utds transfers last summer in and out there was more than a bit of book balancing going on compare this team to 5 years ago imo they have slipped backwards an awful lot
