Looking at the season so far, some results have being disappointing but the performances are showing the progress we are making. 30 points so far from 51 which could have being a lot better but that is the way things have panned.

I firmly believe if we can get upwards of 70 points we could snatch a Champions League place which would be a fantastic acheivement for where this team is going.

Silverware to me at the moment is more important to breed a bit hunger and get the players a taste of success to build on next season. However disappointing last night's result and some others this season due to varying factors but we can have a moan and that. But we should be satisfied with how we are going at the moment this season.

A lot to look forward too for the rest of the season.

Anyone care to share their views so far.

Sorry bud I'd have to disagree with you there. 4th is much more important in the bigger picture than a carling or FA cup win. We could risk losing Suarez/Enrique and miss out on our top transfer targets if we don't nab 4th. So that's the priority for me.

At the end of the day we are in the mixer and challanging for 4th and still in the cups I think most of us would have taken that at the start of the season.

Saying that I would love a bit of silverware this season, it would give everyone at the club a deserved lift and reward for all the hard work in turning the ship around.

Agree on the silverware bit with you, 4th seems to be the be all and end all for some. I think at this stage if your not willing to play for the club and with Dalglish is charge no crap or excuses like the above will wash. It might so naive but at the moment we need some silverware to go with 4th preferably but respect your opinion. The majority on here would be of the same opinion in regards to the CL, however much I want to see LFC in the mix again. The players getting some silverware would make them more hungry and want to stay to be build something big here.

Fair enough I take your points on board but as you say parts of it might be a bit naieve, thinking Luis Suarez (for example) would turn down Barca, Real or Man City just because of Kennys influence.

If we are in the champions league we can hang onto these guys but if not then it will be bye bye. These foreign players have no ties to the club. We should all have learned that lesson by now that there is not much loyalty left in football. If Barca need a left back or Real need another striker, there is nothing to stop our top players being snapped up with the promise of more money and champions league football.

If it was me or you and we loved the club of course we'd stay and play for nothing. But these players have short careers and have no affinity or loyalties to LFC. We need to keep our best players and attract the best in the world to move forward. Just being LFC I don't think is enough any more. We need to be playing champions league football, that is my priority for the season.

only 2 points off 4th stop its very do-able i think we can win the carling cup too and have a good run in the fa cup with city or manure going out early in that one id like to think we can still have a great season finishing 4th and 2 cups in the bag

    Hi,

If I was given the choice, I'd rather we got into the CL next season, myself ... simply put, we need to be competing in the most important competition, to attract more money from TV, Advertising etc and also, to help attract in more top players (or trainees, seeking to sign with a club that they think offers them the potential of future CL, wining the Premier League etc).

But calling a spade a spade, we need to be scoring more goals if we are to win anything or even get into the CL.

Yes, we are proving a good side with excellent defensive positions and some quality players starting to gel, but we ain't scoring the goals needed to win games and with serious competition awaiting us in the Semi-Final of the Carling Cup, not to mention other competitions, we need to score multiple goals every game and I don't just mean 1 goal a game, I mean 2-3 per game because as sure as night follows day, some of the other teams competing for the CL will manage to break down our defense once in a while.....

We need to try and keep things in perspective, Kenny has begun what is going to be a long journey back to the glory days so lets just hope he continues to get sufficient financial support from John Henry to help build a squad which will win a lot in the years to come.

This season, if we can get 4th and back into the CL, it will be a great achievement imho ....

Getting into the Champions League would be far more important than winning FA or league Cup. Without doubt.

About a month ago, I felt pretty confident we would possibly do both. (one of the cups AND top 4)

But I guess things havent really gone our way of late. The Lucas injury was a hammer blow, and this Suarez thing hasn't cheered anyone up.
Plus, I was of the opinion that we were just being unlucky in front of goal. But now I have changed my view to thinking we have a wee problem in terms of our lack of ruthlessness on front of goal and may need to buy a striker or at least a goal-scoring midfielder in january. (IF we're to make top four this season)

We're so bloody infuriatingly close. We just need a goal-poacher. And bobs yer Uncle.

Even little Luis Garcia used to divide opinion, but i loved his knack for popping up with important goals. That would do fine. It needn't even be a forward.
Just someone who gets us goals.

And if we DO start scoring, then that breeds confidence and suddenly the other lads will start slotting them in too, instead of fluffing their lines.

But the points gap between us and 4th wouldnt want to get much bigger, or else we're buggered.

We're doing very well. Just missing that one ingredient.

CL football is way more important and like what red said above, to get there we NEED someone that is able to put the ball into the back of the net week in week out

Agree with all of that (although not quite sure what you mean in terms of the timing, with buying a goal scorer in January, if we don't make top four this season ?)

I think the absence of Stevie G (a proven goal scorer, in addition to being a true on the field, leader) is massive in terms of lack of goals this season, add to that the fact that Kuyt ain't on form, the big fella is taking longer than we'd hoped to start racking up the goals etc etc

I think if LFC want 4th this season, they need to buy one, if not two, top rate goal scorers in January and that means spending big dosh - which John Henry may not be ready to do just yet, given his previous financial commitments to the club, probably financial preperation for a new stadium or rebuild of Anfield etc.

Anyway, all said and done, perhaps we are running away with ourselves a little and expecting too much, for our first full season with Kenny back in charge etc ?

Not far off a cl spot and in a cup semi final = progress

We are doing well imo, there is far too many doom and gloom merchants who believe we should win every game and apart from spurs we deserved to win every one but we are still a little short on firepower but this is still a work in progress and im delighted with how we are going,

Spurs arsenal and chelsea all have to come to anfield too so as far as im concerned everything is looking up

Getting the most natural goalscorer that we have in our squad at the minute, back to full fitness, would go a huge way towards us making a real push for fourth place, at the moment we are just about hanging on.

And no, I don't mean Fabio.

I'd take 4th and a Champions League spot over a cup any day of the week myself.

The confidence we can get by winning the Carling Cup and ensuring us a place in Europe next season could be so important for the run in. I want Europe next season even if it is just Europa League. For us to get to the Champions League we are going to need other teams to fail.

The Champions league will attract the better calibre of players..most of the time,so we must aim to be in it every year, and all the benefits that follow that...on and off the pitch.

It's half way, a couple of points of 4th semis of a cup, playing well just not finishing, but things are getting better all the time, I'd still believe we're gona get 4th, but I'd say it will come right to the wire.

No. That's not true Lionel mate.

It's still ours to win or lose.

    Even statistically. Even mathematically.

Its ours if we're good enough.

Yeah Gary, but that is the $64,000 question. I am always optimistic going into every match.

Just wish we could swap the meanest defense record for a few 2-1 wins. Too late to be checking stats but I think we are 8 pts better off than this time last year.

My optimism counter will be helped by multiple scoring victories over the next few weeks but as I have already said I want a Europa League place secured by winning the League Cup this season.

While i'd like to see us getting 4th and maybe one of the cups realistically i cant see it happen if we keep dropping points against the likes of wigan , so i'll be happy with european football and one of the carling or fa cups, cl will be a bonus
