please tell me this is some sort is sick ****in joke!! :(

Two American missiles struck a village in south-west Iran early today.
The news was given in a report by the country's Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
IRNA had said yesterday that three people were injured when an earlier US missile struck an oil depot in Abadan.
The state-run news agency also said British and American jets had entered Iranian airspace several times.
The two rockets hit Manyuhi village near the border with Iraq's Al-Faw Peninsula, an Iranian military commander told IRNA.
He gave no details of casualties or damage.
"In the border city of Arvand-Kenar, the invading American and British airplanes violated the airspace of the Islamic Republic of Iran three times," the commander said.
"In two cases, two rockets... hit the Manyuhi village."
The governor of Abadan told IRNA that three people, including a guard at the oil depot, had been released from hospital after receiving treatment.
Iran has strongly condemned the US-led military assault on Iraq.

    Slightly on topic

The US military has admitted it bears significant responsibility for last month's air strike on the Afghan border that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

A statement said US and Afghan forces acted in self defence, but conceded there had been a lack of proper co-ordination with Pakistani forces.

BBC correspondents say the admission is expected to embarrass the US military.

In retaliation for the killings, Pakistan closed its border with Afghanistan, cutting Nato supply lines.

There was no immediate response from Pakistan to the findings of the US investigation. Pakistan, a vital partner in the fight against militants in the region, has demanded a formal US apology.

In the statement the US once again expressed its deepest regret for the "tragic loss of life" caused by the air strike in Mohmand tribal agency on 26 November.

"Inadequate co-ordination by US and Pakistani military officers operating through the border co-ordination centre - including our reliance on incorrect mapping information shared with the Pakistani liaison officer - resulted in a misunderstanding about the true location of Pakistani military units," it said.

"This, coupled with other gaps in information about the activities and placement of units from both sides, contributed to the tragic result."

    ---------------------------------------

Does that not count as murder or manslaughter? Should someone not get locked up for making the mistake that killed 24 innocent people?

Yes it does. Why does the International Criminal Court not get a role here? They could undertake investigations and take prosecutions if evidence supports it. Its not enough just to say Ooops, sorry...

to be honest i havent bought a news paper since i was about 18. i hate them all to be honest. ive no idea about the credibility of the different new corps or the story itself which is why i said i hope its a joke.
Its a pretty huge claim to make if it is made up though right? it could also be a false new report from iran sources.

Its just a bit ironic to see that sort of story along side the DM's usual diet of celeb pics and all that rubbish.

I have a quick spin around the web to see if I could find something else on it but no joy either...your point about the Iranians could be right..

This is what I could find

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57323685/iran-exile-group-claims-blast-hits-missile-base/

(AP) WASHINGTON - An explosion at a Revolutionary Guard ammunition depot west of Tehran Saturday killed at least 17 soldiers, including a senior commander of the powerful military force, Iranian officials said.

Guard spokesman Gen. Ramazan Sharif said the blast occurred as the result of an accident during the transport of munitions at the base. The site is located outside Bidganeh village, 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of the capital.

"My colleagues at the Guard were transporting ammunition at one of the depots at the site when an explosion occurred as a result of an accident," Sharif said.

At least 17 Guard members were killed, state TV reported. The broadcast said 16 other soldiers were injured and hospitalized. Sharif said some of them were in critical condition.

Earlier, Sharif had said that 27 soldiers were killed but later retracted his statement, explaining that the error was due to an illegible fax from officials at the site of the blast. Among those killed was Hasan Moghaddam, a senior Guard commander.

While the explosion occurred during a time of heightened tension with Israel, the U.S. and other Western powers, Iranian lawmaker Parviz Soroori ruled out sabotage.

"No sabotage was involved in this incident. It has nothing to do with politics," Soroori was quoted as saying by the parliament's website, icana.ir.

An exiled Iranian dissident group, the Mujahedin-e Khalq or MEK, meanwhile claimed that the blast hit a missile base run by the Revolutionary Guards rather than an ammunition depot.

Former MEK spokesman Alireza Jafarzadeh, citing what he called reliable sources inside Iran, said that the explosion hit the Modarres Garrison of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps west of Tehran.

Jafarzadeh said in an email that the Modarres Garrison belongs to the IGRC's missile unit and the blasts "resulted from the explosion of IRGC missiles." He did not say what he believes triggered the explosion.

The MEK in the past has disclosed the sites of several key Iranian nuclear installations as well as details of their operations, although their reports have not always been reliable.

The MEK fought the Tehran regime on the side of Iraq's Saddam Hussein and is listed as a terrorist organization by the State Department. But the group says it has renounced violence and some former senior government officials and members of Congress are calling for the Obama administration to remove the group from the list.

The blast comes just days after a new report by the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog agency that Iran is conducting nuclear weapons-related research and follows unconfirmed reports that Israel was considering a military strike on Tehran's nuclear program.

In the past, Tehran has accused the West of engaging in a campaign of sabotage and assassination against the regime.
