I think this incredible and the tweet to top it all. Farce if you ask me.

Alan Hansen has landed himself in hot water after making a racial gaffe TWICE during last night’s Match of the Day.

The BBC pundit - who is paid an enormous £40,000 per show - caused controversy after describing black players as 'coloured' when discussing the current John Terry and Luis Suarez racism rows.
Fellow pundit Lee Dixon looked on in disdain as former Liverpool defender Hansen, 56, said: ‘I think there’s a lot of coloured players in all the major teams and there are lots of coloured players who are probably the best in the Premier League.

Alan Hansen came under-fire for his comments on Match of the Day which appeared to shock fellow pundit Lee Dixon.
‘If you look at 25 or 30 years ago it was probably in a bad way - not as bad as some of the other nations on the Continent - but certainly there is always, always room for improvement.’

The 56-year-old ex-Scotland international immediately came under-fire on social networking site Twitter after fans, footballers and celebrities lead a backlash against the former Liverpool defender for describing black players ‘coloured’.

Former Tottenham player Rohan Ricketts, now at Irish outfit Shamrock Rovers, was outraged and tweeted: ‘Is this Alan Hansen guy taking the f****** p***?? I’m not coloured??? He is part of the problem when using that word. We are BLACK Alan! Wtf [sic].’

He then added: ‘Alan Hansen is more coloured than a black person. But still we would not call him or another white man coloured.’

Apparently you can’t use the word ‘coloured’ because it’s racist. News to me.

I think the whole thing has gone feckin crazy...Hansen has only slipped into 70s mode and deliberately not trying to be offensive.
I get the impression that blacks, coloureds African/Americans..whatever they choose to be called go out of their way to be offended.Pity the poor Micks and Paddys who have suffered for generations!

I thought you couldnt use 'black' because some people have brown skin. I though 'coloured' was the PC word.
I cant keep up with this political correctness shite.

Well if they are BLACK then WTF was wrong with Luis supposedly calling Evra BLACK?

I hate this poxy mentality they have, same in work, the white people are not allowed to sit with the blacks. True story by the way. They are bigger racists than we are. I'm getting sick of this shite now. In a bad enough mood as it is, this is just taking the pure piss.

Why does racism never go the other way??????????

    Go and get ****ed.

No ones getting lynched anymore, I'd rather be called black or the n-word than a **** or slut. So are they really saying they'd rather be called, black, ****, slut etc rather than coloured? ****ing outraged, and this is a shambles.

The FA opened up a whole new kettle of fish.

    Now to support Hansen.

Black is black and coloured is coloured. Hansen referred to black players as coloured and showed he doesn't know the difference.

A very stupid thing to do on the telly!!

I'm on the verge of getting terribly racist, there's a few terms that come to mind. I aint a happy camper.

They have there own table in work, where they all talk in foreign tongue, and theres no whites allowed.

Then some of them come over and try sit near the whites, and if theres not enough room and no one offers them a seat, we are racist.

When its someones bday, they don't chip in any dosh cos its not in their religion, yet they will accept gifts from everyone else.
We are not allowed to portray religious symbols/clothing, also we can't get time off for religious holidays, they can wear and display what they like, and get time off for everything, we can't. WHY??

Because they play the racism card.

I'm going to start playing it soon, tis only fair.

Yes I'm very sorry that you were subjected to slavery for a hundred years or so.
Us Irish were subjected to 800 years by the Brits. We've gotten over it.

    Move the **** on.

I would like to think that I/we don't see any difference or mean to be offensive so we don't even consider it an issue.
Feck I've lived through a lifetime of sectarianism which is still present to this day.

Are you for real? A few years ago we were told you can't call African peopl black, coloured is a more PC term. Then that went out of fashion and coloured was seen as offensive. Hansen was obviously not trying to offend anyone, in fact he was sticking up for a race!

I'm with you Eric, I don't know when we all became so sensitive. None of us are blind we can all see when people are of a different skin colour. Racism for me is discrimination against specific race groups and by calling these groups a ceratain name like Luis and Hansen, then that is not racism!

By the way Niall I haven't checked up, if that was a hook you threw out, yes I am picking it out of the back of my throat :D

Why did I know this story was from 'The Daily Mail' even though that newspaper was not mentioned in the OP. Because they love the auld stories about being disgusted on behalf of their 'middle englander' reader's mentality.

Is Rohan Ricketts not a shade of dark brown? Are we to describe Asians as yellow? Pedantic prick.

I'm a pasty shade of white if anyone wants to refer to me by my colour:D

i dont class myself as racist but everything you have said goes on every day they make no effort to integrate into society and im sick to fcuk of this race card i think racism is cultural not skin colour if a black lad called me a white cnut i wouldnt give a shit but if the same guy called me an irish cnut i would explode same should apply to them get over the skin thing by all means be protective and proud of where you come from if someone calls you black cnut get over it if someone says african cnut then you can play the race card

Blacks and coloureds are two very different ethnic groups. I don't think it was ever "fashionable" or "PC correct" to use one term or the other to describe both groups collectively. Whoever told you this is very wrong.

Hansen probably wasn't trying to offend anyone but he did by showing his ignorance. Hence the reaction from Ricketts etc.
