England and Chelsea captain John Terry will be charged with racially abusing Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.

England captain John Terry will face a charge of using racist language, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) says.

Terry is alleged to have used racist language towards Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand, during Chelsea's 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road on 23 October.

The Chelsea captain was questioned under caution by police in November and a file on the matter was sent to the CPS at the beginning of December.

The 30-year-old has always denied making racist comments.

Alison Saunders, chief crown prosecutor for London, said: "I have today advised the Metropolitan Police that John Terry should be prosecuted for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments allegedly made during a football match between Queen's Park Rangers and Chelsea on 23 October.

"The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors and, after careful consideration of all the evidence, I am satisfied there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute this case."

Mr Terry is due to appear before West London Magistrates' Court on 1 February.

That's what I am wondering? If he is found guilty in the court will he get a similar ban like Saurez? You would bloody hope so anyway.

That will drag on forever through the legal system.

If the FA now choose to stay away from it until the courts decide, then he'll probably be fcukin retired by then anyway

    From James Pearce on Twitter:

The Crown Prosecution Service say that the maximum punishment for John Terry if he's found guilty of this offence is a fine of £2500

Iv also heard that the FA will now wash their hands of this and say it has been dealt with by the Police. It's all gonna work out very conveniently for the FA and Mr England

I'll be fcuking livid if that is all he gets, he conveniently wont be brought up in front of the FA etc. even though he blatantly used a racial slur

If he gets 100 games it still won't undo Luis miscarriage of justice.

If the fA don't take action surely that's more grounds for us to appeal the incident happened on the pitch during a game a ban must be issued IMO

So he's been found guilty then by the 5-0, so the FA have no need for their own investigation, they can move quickly.

Also, Evra may now try this against Luis, which I believe will help our cause.

If the fa do not ban terry regardless of punishment the courts give him then suarez can sue them for discrimination
