Liverpool are the latest club to enter the race to sign Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly. Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor told BBC Sport NI that he had been contacted by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish about Donnelly on Sunday. The club have accepted an offer of around £100,000 from Swansea for the 19-year-old while Donnelly has also been linked with Everton. Cliftonville want Donnelly's future to be sorted out before Christmas. Donnelly is in Wales on Monday to discuss personal terms with Swansea City. However, Lawlor is now expecting Liverpool to follow up Dalglish's initial contact with a follow-up call on Monday. Donnelly has scored 17 goals this season, several of them spectacular, leading to interest from several clubs. Everton and Brentford have been among the other prominent suitors before Swansea put in a firm bid last week. A Cliftonville statement said on Sunday that they would not be entering into any new dialogue with interested parties after next Friday. "Cliftonville this week announced the acceptance of a transfer offer from Swansea City FC for striker Rory Donnelly," the club stated. "The club are also aware of interest in the player from a number of other sources and has responded to a series of tentative enquiries in recent weeks. "We are, however, keen to bring the issue to a conclusion as soon as possible." Lawlor told the BBC that he wanted "the best deal for club but ultimately it's about the player and what is best for Rory at this stage in his young career". The Cliftonville chairman acknowledged that the transfer speculation is in danger of becoming a distraction to the team and manager Tommy Breslin. RORY DONNELLY FACTFILE •Born: 18 February, 1992 •Position: Striker •Height: 6ft 2in •Cliftonville debut: 7 September, 2010 v Linfield http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16237980.stm
Yea I know a bit about him. He was born in February 1992. I think he's about 6 ft 2. He plays up front, and if I recall correctly he made his debut against Linfield
Cliftonville had another young striker Liam Boyce who signed for Werder Bremen(true) in 2010 but is now gonna sign for Hereford in Jan. Massive step for a young player coming from the Irish League but Kenny seems interested.
never heard of this kid but if kenny wants him all well and good and he will be cheap so get him in and have a look at him
Plenty of talk about him up in the North but I haven't seen a full game so can't really offer any insight
It seems to me that Kenny wants the best of the Celts in his team which I think is great but seems a long shot at the end of the Day but best of luck to the kid.
for 100k You wouldnt get some one wages for that, so there isnt much of a massive gamble in this transfer.
Dont really follow Irish League football but have a couple of mates who follow Cliftonville who say he is an absolute star and a couple if Linfield fans who dread him playing against them as he always scores, apparently!
