Worked in airport few years ago and there was an incident where passenger had smoke in car park stairs shaft and dropped the end of cigerette on ground

It lit some paper on fire and alarm went off, i was first one there as was in car park at time, 3 units of Fire Brigade came out, total call out charge was €1500 for something i could of put out with my bottle of 7UP

I noticed my car insurance this year covers up to €1200 i think it was for call out charge

This could actually be a good thing if it raises awareness of the issue of fire safet and get householders to assess the risks they ahve in their own homes.

When was the last time people checked their smoke alarms?

tbh, i thought there was always a fee when the fire brigade was called out. i'm sure my workmate was telling me how he had to get his insurance company to fork out a ball of money for the fire brigade when a passer by called it. he had hit a tree in his motor. he didn't need it either. they just came out, looked around, and went back to the station.

thats down the country tho, so maybe its different in dublin. i spose in the city they might only have to travel a mile or so, but down here it could be 20 miles into the stix.

Was driving back from a site a few summers ago when we noticed that there was a fire in the ditch up ahead. Rang the fire station and 15mins later they came up sirens blazing.

The head guy then comes over to us and starts talking about a call-out fee of a couple of hundred euros, two fake names & address' later we were on our way.

Should have just let the place burn down it seems.

I came across a crash a few years ago I knew the driver of the jeep. I stopped and got him out of the jeep, We pulled the jeep out of the ditch and pulled it into a safe place. A house owner heard the crash and called the fire brigade. My mate took the number plates off his jeep locked it. Just as we left the brigade arrived. 5 weeks later I got a bill from the brigade as it was the only name they had.
