This one costs 25 a month so would be lookin for somethin similar..

    Check out vodafone mifi

Its a wireless unit thats smaller then a box of playing cards and its wireless

We use one in work for certain runs, all you have to do is turn it on

Its €20 per month and you can use up to 5 devices off it at same time. Its 10gbs PM but its an 18 month contract.

Its pretty cool and simple to use.You can get a 12 month but its a lower gb

    Majella,

That little piece of kit looks very good, but am I right in thinking you need decent constant mobile signal to get this thing to work ?

For areas where there is not decent and reliable mobile coverage, might be better to look at some of the landline alternatives, perhaps ?

(I.E. Broadband via a cable into the house with a wireless router then to distribute the signal internally)

One of our drivers went on a tour of Connemara and I gave him the unit to test it.

(We are talking lots of mountains etc)

He had no probs with it whatsoever. It has been to Knock and Shannon loads of times, no probs. I have also used it in my apt which has terrible mobile reception and it was perfect.

You are allowed to have it on a 2 week trial to test it so its defo something to look into

Digiweb, Smart, Eircom, UTV, Vodafone all do cable broadband. I work for a broadband company myself, depends where you live and how much you use it, on which product is best for ya.

I am living in an area with no fixed line BB and am using the 3 mifi device and am quiet happy with it. I had the dongle (usb modem) previously but was looking for something similar to what you're looking for - connecting multiple devices, laptops, netbooks, phone etc and this works a treat in fairness.

(Signal can be "iffy" sometimes but a reboot of the router usually sorts it)

Cheers for that follow up info Majella,

Defo makes that little vodafone gizzmo worthwhile, if the service is as reliable as it seems to be from what you've said ...

Just be careful with any 3G connection. Depending on how much you download, if you go over your allowance you'll get heavily penalised. A movie is anything from 1gig to 3 gig (for HD). You'll soon go over if you are using iTunes or the like for movies.

The vodafone unit has now dropped to €39 to buy on the ready to go option, could be handy for someone., You can buy cred for day, week or month

Handy if you want to entertain kids on a long journey

Nice bit of kit this.Would I be right though in saying that it's more for browsing and not really suitable for downloading movies, playing online etc?

I suppose it would depend on how much "credit" you buy but I'd say you wouldn't be downloading movies no.

The driver that actually tested our one was impressed with it and he actually just bought one and told me about the drop in price.

My sis is picking one up as she goes up and down to Temple st a lot and it will keep both kids entertained on thetrip

Got the 3 wifi thingy today plugged it in typed in the codes and away I go Yippee.

Tried to order it on line that didnt work, so rang them yesterday told your man that I was with them for the last 3 years why would he charge me for an upgrade. He said he had to charge for the unit 9 euro then he spoke to some manager and got me 2 months free. Saving me 40 euro. HaHa
