Ironic indeed but a national treasure... http://www.rorygallagher.com/#/news/2011/10/slash_calls_for_rorys_induction_into_the_rrhf
What about (just off the top of my head..) Sonia O Sullivan Roy Keane Denis Irwin Terence MacSwiney Sean O Riordain etc etc Personally I think they're all ahead of Rory
I know I can't tell Cork people who their heroes should be but Rory Gallagher's legacy echoes in eternity!
Agreed Istanbul Vet -actually my Dad (RIP) taught the great RG many many moons ago..however I dont believe that he is ahead of that list like
He was only one of he world's greatest rock guitar players of all time mate, I had the pleasure of meeting the great man at the national boxing stadium many moons ago
Eh? Maybe it's a generational thing... Name a more famous song of his/theirs... if it's not played regularly as a "classic" then he's not that big lol
Ahh, brings back memories of my uncle jumping between the top of 2 bunk beds with a hurley, if it wasn't Gallagher , it wasn't played
It's not the songs, more so his influence on music, and guitar playing that he's famous. But Lady Gaga and the like will be remembered by more people than RG will ever be.
Sad but true Eric, he was never that well known in the pop world, but in his time he was one of the greatest guitarist in the world, and IMO even better than Jimmy Hendrix
Sure didn't Jimmy say it himself 'How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher.' —Jimi Hendrix
