Up into the top 15 of all time international goalscorers, the man is a fcuking ireland legend and why people give him stick is beyond me, the amount of goals this lad has scored is unreal, and if anyone says anything about the quality of the opposition ill just say he is coming up aganst the same calibre of player every other international player has come up against and he has done it in huge games, holland, germany, iran, spain, france, yugoslavia

Loot at this list and look at the names he is looking down on and tell me he isnt one of the greatest international strikers

Euro players who have scored more than Keane: Puskas (84), Kocsis (75), Muller (68), Klose (62), Schlosser (59), Koller (55) Streich (55)

Well thats not really true Ger. He has scored a bag-full of goals against pub-teams too. Teams that are so weak that they didnt even exist years ago.

I dont see them on your list.

The modern day international footballer can score goals against San marino, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Armenia, Faroe islands, etc..... And the list goes on.

In the interest of fairness, maybe you should list those too.

They werent around back in the day when when other top players had to work a lot harder for a cap, and for a goal.

Thats not Robbie's fault. I'm just saying, you need to keep things in context.

Michael Owen is Englands 4th all-time scorer.
Whens the last time he scored a meaningful goal?
And you can put Brazil, and Argentina on his list.

But you can also add up a load of goals he scored against wanky teams.

He's not the 4th best forward England have ever had.
    Jesus, nowhere close.

I'm not attacking Robbie. I'm just pointing out the other side of the coin.

He's been turning up and scoring goals for us since what 1998/1999 so fair ****s to him. A great pro who loves playing for his country and gives everything in every game he plays for us. Delighted for him that we are going to the finals. Fully agree with you Ger.

I think keane is like marmite. Love him or hate him thats some goal scoring record. I have never seen such a mixed reaction to one player.

John Alridge played a life time of games for Ireland. He scored a respectable amount of goals, but Keane has scored three times as many. In the pub tonight stil pricks saying anyone could hav scored them. The best Irish striker ever by about 30 goals.

Tonight he said he was delighted to score 2 goals for the team he supported as a kid. Not falling for that one again!

Seriously though, he will be looked back at as a legend and we (and i include myself) should think twice before we criticise the man. He has come from a working class background and done good.
Maybe he has taken the easy option by heading to the states, but he had nothing left to prove.
His international goals scoring record is incredible!

    Well done Robbie.

Always been that way mate although now they are all professionals and organised to a relative standard. Check out what was competing at the 1974 world cup:D http://youtu.be/hhJ6lDRP2ZY

Nobody can take away from Robbies record, scored the goals when they were needed most.

He is still very highly regarded over in Italy despite only being there for one season.

Ah no, thats fair enough Bobby.

I already said above, I'm not looking to criticise his record.

And someone else said "he's always there when we need him" which is equally true.

He's never gone missing or feigned injury (as far as i know)

If ya go back to my original post, I merely pointed out that everything needs to be kept in context.

He's been wonderful for ireland. But it gets blown out of proportion.

If you look back on my comments, i never at any stage had a go at him.

Some people get way too sensitive about him.

Totally agree with D-Red on this.Hes always been there when we needed him but to say he's an emphatic goalscorer is a bit much.Yes he's scored important goals for us but sometimes he's scored alot of goals against opposition that he could probably pay to do his garden :)

Nearly up there with Ali Daei and Stern John! The goals per game is the important stat.

If Robbie Keane only scores against dodgy opposition then would that not imply that most european countries should have a striker with a similar record?

Also, i would have thought that the fact that he plays for a smaller country which most would say doesn't exactly tend to hammer teams or create too many chances makes his record slightly more impressive?

Robbie Keane is a ledgend and that will only hit home to all the Keane bashers when he retires....

How we can knock a player who has scored 50+ goals, when we've had goal scoring gems likes of Gary Doherty,Tommy Coyne,Andy Keogh and the yank Joe lapira....

    Jesus Robbie dont retire:)
