Reading yesterdays paper in work (one has to do something to make the day go by),a story in it about gambling transaction on your bank account statements been used as an excuse to turn down mortgage applications. Not sure if this has been discussed but how silly are these lads, just up load the cash to paypal or moneybookers etc to not leave a trail.

    Be warrned.

Yep Paul have heard that on several occasions that the banks take a dim view of betting transactions on statements. You'd want to be stupid to be betting on your bank account if you were even thining about going for a mortgage anyway.

You should get into good habits now and filter the money through something else, you never know you may want a car loan or something soon.

Yeah someone I know used to gamble heavily and had made a profit of 35,000 over 2 years.

When he went to get a mortgage they refused him. He pointed out that he had made 35,000 over two years gambling and had a steady income.

They told him it was because of the 35,000 that they were turning him down in the first place.

By the time I heard about it I had already been gambling pretty regularly and was about to go for a mortgage.
I stopped altogether and waited 12 months and they approved mine.
But I had someone going guarantor as well, so that might have swung it for me.

Its definitely NOT going to do ya any favours anyway. And lets face it, any excuse for them to turn people down nowadays will be taken.

The phone bill one is a bit strange, sure most people if they make a lot of calls would be on one of these plans were you make make any amount of calls.Unless they are talking about lads ringing the sexy ladies late at night for €4.50 per min.

I find it an insult for someone to call me stupid for betting from my bank account.
It's my bank account and my money. It's only ever small bets and spread out over long periods. Plus did the banks not gamble all the money away?

I've talked to my bank manager and he said I'm not to worry about it, as its a tiny percentage of my income. This only matters to serious gamblers, who may gamble enough money that they can't pay there mortgage. 50 quid a year won't kill anyone, you lose that down the back of the couch.

Silly is a better word :)

I know you didn't mean to insult anyone Paul.

As I said in my post, people who are betting big shouldn't be doing so from their Bank Account, all you need to do is lodge 100 quid in a month, and you'll be scuppered unless your salary is extraodinarily large.

Just love the way the banks are so hypocritical.

Paddy power have what they call a cash card, you can get one in any PP shop. Once you activate the card you can just go into the shop and put money into your account using the card or withdraw your winnings using the card. No trail at all.
