Not seen a thread about him, apologies if I've missed it.

What do people think about him?

See we've been linked with him and supposedly have had him watched and made contact.

I mentioned this over on Scouser-Tommy and have been pretty much laughed at by all but the Irish lads on there.

Seems he's not rated very highly by most and overpriced, but personally I'd snap him up.

Great attitude, very good finisher, still young, excellent work rate, pacey, savage in the air...........

    Anyone?

I was under impression Sunderland were after him. Its looks like we are going to sign Korean striker Park Ji Sung which would mean maybe only two signings after that.Would be nice to have Long but I think Sunderland would offer him a better chance of first team football.

Since when were we linked with Park Ji Sung and he's no more a striker than I am.If it's the mancs lad then he's a midfielder.

I would love if we signed Long but can't see him being happy being a 3rd choice striker.

Long can play wide right too though,he's played there for Reading.

He's got the pace and the ability to play out there,Kuyt's been doing it for along enough, hardly ideal but I think Long would be better suited to it,if his chnaces up front were limited.

For Long and Ireland's sake I hope we don't sign him. He'd benefit more being a regular starter for a mid level premier league team. Villa, Newcastle or god forbid even Everton mightn't be a bad move for him.

A good player coming into a crucial part of his career.

+1. Needs to be playing regular football at this stage of his career as he would only be a bit part player if we signed him.

Sure Longy would only walk off in disgust if he got the hook and throw his jersey at the manager.

yep exactly, better off getting regular ball at a mid-table club... surely we have to be looking at players that are better than what we have?
signing average squad players isnt going to help matters imo

I'd consider Long a marked improvement on N'gog, cant see him being happy going from a 20 odd goal a season man to an impact player off the bench though. Cant say I'd blame him either, easily good enough to be a starter in a mid table team imo.

how much would he cost though? £8-10m? Bit pricey to have a better 3rd/4th choice centre forward??
We could get a good left full for that - someone that will be a regular in the first team

Sven looking to bring him to Leicester. Reading have said they will only listen to offers from a premiership club. Can't believe there hasn't been more interest in him.

From a selfiish point of view I would love him instead of Ngog.

For his career, someone like Villa, Fulham or Wolves would do his development wonders.

Haven't seen much of him in the championship but in the playoff final I thought he was poor

From watching Ireland games though surely you know what kind of player he is and the impact he can have.

He’s a hard working, clever player, who is deceptively quick.

Still hope we don’t sign him for his own sake.

Premierleague is a different prospect .Think a move to a club that would offer him more football would be better for him , as sitting on our bench won't do his progression any good for him or us

I think these two lines pretty much sums up my thoughts on Shane Long transfer.

I could see him doing a good job at the likes of Villa,Newcastle or everton where he would get first team football.I think if he signed for us he would be behind, Carroll,Suarez and even Kuyt.
