What are your plans for New Years eve...?I am just going to have a few mates around and have a few beers (its very hard to get babysitters) nothing special.Anyway this got me thinking how crap New Years Eve is here well in Dublin anyway.

Nothing is planed by the council or no big shows,I have spent 3/4 New Years Eve in Liverpool and it just has a much better feel.I also spent one in New York and that was amazing.

For a country that prides itself on been a party destination we are very slack when it come to this night.

Very true. Every so often you get a fireworks display at midnight but that ain't exactly going to bring in a load of tourists from across Europe is it. Would be no harm to close off a street (O'Connell St for example) and put on a decent show, in the same way they do in Edinburgh. Can't see it happening anytime soon though, council budgets probably wouldn't stretch that far is probably the response you'd get back.

I reckon for New Years Eve this year we should have an IK.com bash at the residence of Messrs Dub13 :D

We don't have New Year celebrations. Our firework display is on Paddy's weekend in March, weather permitting. (last one in 2005, btw)

As always, I will watch the celebrations on tv from other cities. Starting with Moscow, and ending with New York. London has the most spectacular display, but Berlin probably has the biggest party. As for crappy Edinburgh, why put on such a show in one of the wettest, most windswept locations in Europe? There was none last year, and 2004, because of weather problems, and there are more expected this time. They should have a Plan B, for such an eventuality.

I have the flu or virus or whatever is going around at the moment. I always get something around this time. The best I can do is sit back watching the box with laptop in hand...
