Have a look at reviews on Amazon. Generally at the price point you're looking at you won't go too far astray with a brandname like Fuji, Nikon,Canon, Panasonic, Sony etc. For a lady you probably want something purse friendnly so go compact size. Megapixels at this stage is grand on them all, ie an 8mp Canon would still be a better buy than some trash brand 12mp. Optical zoom is important - ignore digital zoom figures as this just artificially blows up the picture and it will be more grainy.

Had a look and Harvey Norman have that for the same price as the Canon one I was looking at.

Only reason I was going for Canon was a few people have told me the images on a Canon camera are super sharp.

I don't know, the sony one you have obviously takes a great pic aswell?

Lads I looked at some of the links for the cameras ye are thinkin of buying there. What did ye pick them out based on? Just wondering! Because they look like terrible value to me!

I wouldn't be an expert or anything, but I reckon the 3 most important things for a camera around this price are, make, megapixels, and optical zoom, in no particular order.

Just did a quick search there and found this one on Argos, 14MP and 10x optical zoom for €120. http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5594384.htm?mvt=HP1_main3b

Or this one: 12 MP and 18x optical zoom for €185 in black or silver
