Wow thats shocking news altogether. They were lucky there wasnt a game in hand.No doubt the there will be a big claim against the people who built the stadium, as infrastruture shouldnt be falling down that easy.

Tragic. It's a miracle this didn't happen during the season - many would have been killed.

    TC Twente Stadium Tragedy

    Sad news from Holland:

FC Twente's stadium has collapsed leaving one person dead and 10 in hospital.

The accident happened in the city of Enschede just after noon local time. It was later confirmed that a further 16 people were injured in the wreckage.

Collapsed: The pictures show how the roof of the stadium has fallen in
Three people were treated at the scene, said Mayor Peter den Oudsten. He said sniffer dogs and cameras were being used to check if anybody else was trapped under the tangle of girders and red roof panels behind the goal at the southern end of the Grolsch Veste stadium.
A local government spokeswoman for the city of Enschede said: 'There are 14 people injured and unfortunately there is one fatal injury, in addition to the 14 injuries.

'Ten people were treated in hospital and two of those people were severely injured. The exact nature of the injuries I cannot tell you at the moment.'

Early assessment: Ambulance workers monitor the situation inside the ground

Injuries: A person is carried out of the stadium in Enschede
FC Twente director Jan van Halst said the club 'is terribly upset.' He added: 'Our sympathy goes to the victims.'

He also appealed to supporters of the team not to visit the stadium while emergency services were still at work.

The roof is reported to have collapsed after two support beams buckled, although the reason why this happened is not yet known
The work was being carried out as part of the club's development of their stadium to a 32,000-seat arena. The capacity was just 13,500 when the side moved to the venue in 1998.

Nightmare: A view from outside the ground shows the scale of the damage
Response: Emergency services races to the stadium after the roof caved in
Twente president Joop Munsterman, who is believed to have left the team's pre-season training camp in Zeeland and is returning to Enschede, said last month: 'We have put a lot of private money in the expansion of the stadium, as we play next season in front of 30,000 men in the Grolsch Veste.'
Phones at the club went unanswered and the players were training elsewhere at the time of the collapse.
Twente are in the third qualifying round of the Champions League and the first home match was due to be played on July 26-27 or August 2-3. The exact date will be decided next week.

Wreckage: The debris hangs over the stand after the accident

Just seen some pictures that is truly shocking. Probably a miracle though that there is only one fatality.
