Maxi Rodriguez could be on his way out of Liverpool http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/13777390.stm Page last updated at 11:17 GMT, Wednesday, 15 June 2011 12:17 UK E-mail this to a friendPrintable version Rodriguez joined Liverpool from Atletico Madrid in 2010 Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez could be on his way back to his boyhood club Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. Rodriguez revealed he had said yes in principle to a move back home. The 30-year-old came through the youth set-up to play three first-team seasons for the Rosario-based side before moving to Espanyol in 2002. "The president [William Lorenzo] called me and I said yes. It depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little." Despite a successful end to last season's campaign with Liverpool, when he scored two hat-tricks as he hit seven goals in three matches, Rodriguez is likely to be only a fringe player next season if he stays. As manager Kenny Dalglish looks to freshen up his squad and bring in younger players, Rodriguez's age could count against him. Midfielder Charlie Adam, 25, and winger Stewart Downing, 26, are said to be on Dalglish's wish-list.
Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez could be on his way back to Argentina after admitting he has always wanted to return to boyhood club Newell's Old Boys. The 30-year-old came through the youth set-up to play three first-team seasons for the Rosario-based side before moving to Espanyol in 2002. "When I left here, I knew I was coming back," Rodriguez told Argentinian newspaper La Capital. "The president (William Lorenzo) called me and I said yes. Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little." Despite a successful end to the campaign with Liverpool, scoring two hat-tricks as he hit seven goals in three matches, Rodriguez is likely to be only a fringe player next season. As manager Kenny Dalglish looks to freshen up his squad and bring in younger players, Rodriguez's age is likely to count against him and, as one of the club's higher earners, owners Fenway Sports Group would prefer to get better value for money from new signings. However, the player would have to take a significant drop in salary in order to return to his homeland.
One i didnt think would move on but, if he wants to go let him go.As he is 30, he is not going to command a high fee id imagine. It will also rule out all the theories about Kun coming to Anfield now that Maxi wants to go.With the players we are been linked too, i dont think there is a spot for him in the team. Also maxi is the kind of player who has a purple patch during a season where he grabs a couple of goals, plays well but for the rest of the season, he is just average. He has given us some good memories though and his song would be saddly missed.
Id like to keep him but The problem is because he was free his wages are fairly high and I know the owners want to bring the wage bill right down
He came good in the last few months of the season, but where was he before that he would go invisible in matches, Still would be a useful squad player to have and on his day could produce something out of nothing, reminds me so much of Garcia
Take the last month of last season out of the equation and he's been pretty average since he joined us 30 years old and on about 80k a week....good bye
He seems to be asking to leave for "free". No chance sunny, unless someone offers to buy him then keep him and use when required. Suarez seems to be good mates with him so that alone may be a reason to keep him.
Pity, he'd have been a good squad player. Didn't realise he was 30 though. Taking that into account, I can see where he's coming from. A new squad full of youth and potential is being built and he's not a stalwart of the club like Gerrard or Carra. He probably doesn't want to spend his final professional years warming a bench and that's fair enough. When you compare the likes of Jova, Cole, Poulsen & co, happy to take their money and do sweet f all for it, it makes you sick.
Great song too tbf and he is a useful squaddy when playing lesser teams. Won't lose much sleep if he's off though.
Perhaps his good finish to the season was an attempt at attracting interest from potential suitors as he really didn't do much else for us. I wouldn't be too sad to see him go but would wish him well as I understand as his chances will be very limited next season.
Would be reluctate to let him go on a free. Don't blame the lad for wanting to go home, that's fair enough. Henry has stated that he couldn't believe the wage bill at Liverpool FC when he took over so maybe he will go to make way on the wage budget but a freebie would seem very generous given his finish to the season, albeit he was acquired on one. To be honest before his end of season form I would have been delighted to see the back of him but he played some super stuff at the end. If he keeps that up you'd be mad to sell him. Who knows ??
You could be right but I reckon you'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt and personally would put it down to the Dalglish factor. After all he could just run out his super contract, ala Kewell. I'm gone very cynicial about so called freebies. They have been a disaster for Liverpool. Kewell, Cole, Jova and Maxi for the most part. I think there is a danger with them that players use them as a golden handshake towards the end of their careers and certainly with the Pool's track record I would question the motivation of some of these players. The wages tend to be huge as well. That other fellow Marveuax is another fellow knocking around now. I'd steer well clear of freebies at this stage.
Talking about freebies, this is an interesting article..... http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine...unia-and-premier-leagues-top-ten-undesirables
He is certainly not essential to our progress. If he stays he will be a squad player not a regular. Im just dissapointed that the talk is of Maxi and Raul maybe leaving... not Cole and Jova.
Jovanovic is on 120K a week Who, in their right mind, signed off on that deal - I'm giving them a call and I'll do what Jovanovic does for half the money
If the talksport article is correct and Cole and Jova are on £210k a week combined it wont be anyway easy to offload them and if we do we will probably wind up contributing to their future wages to get them out the door.
