It's all over the net that Liverpool have bid £8m for this lad. ipswich supposed to be holding out for £10m. Seems more likely now with Ngog moving on. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Connor-Wickham/44721022393 Made his league debut when he was barely 16. 2011 Football league young player of the Year. Scored the winner in the Euro U17 final vs. Spain. 18 now and in the England U21 squad. Would be a super signing in my opinion.
Definitely, i thought this lad was good from day one, with ngog moving on then Wickham should definitely come in
Blast Off... the start of Kenny's new Era. Rumours of 1 of Adam, Jones, Dann, Downing 2 be next + Wickham its going to be the start of a great summer i like the look of wickham get him in
This chap is better than rooney was at his age.He is more powerful and has been playing on the left of the front 3 at ispwich. He is a beast of a player.
Going to have to bow to the superior knowledge of the Championship here, his stats are pretty much identical to Rooney's when he was at Everton though (albeit playing at a lower level).
I know its You tube, But i watched Arsenal v Ispwich in the Carling Cup when he was 17, and he was fantastic.Tracking back and putting tackles in for a forward man.Ill root the video out and Post it again. He is a raw talent, which can only get better.
ive seen a fair bit of him this season on the bbc after match of the day and he looks decent i know its only highlights but he looks good
If we manage to tie up deals for Henderson, Jones (hopefully) & Wickham before any of the 'big boys' get a sniff then it will be quite the feather in the hat for Comolli, could quite possibly be the spine of the team for the next ten years or more. Add to that Suarez, Carroll & Gerrard, all fighting fit after a decent rest & good pre-season, and a marquee signing or two from abroad (which I still expect) and suddenly I start to get this weird long lost tingling feeling, what is? Aaaaaah, optimism, it's been too long.
Id have to agree with you there. But your also forgetting the likes of Kelly and Shelvy too, which is another two positions tied up.Wickham is a fantastic signing, and with Ngog going out the door(If he decides go go) it certaintly paves the way for this Kid to come in. Just hope that if we do sign him, there wont be too much expectations on his shoulders.
Ngog was piss poor at times but he became our number 1 striker for a while due to injuries and so on which in fairness was hard on him, he was never up to it and the fans kinda turned on him as well, If Wickham comes in he won't have half the pressure on his shoulders with Carroll and Suarez which would give him time to settle in. He looks like a bigger version of Kuyt from the clips I've seen (of which there are few).I'd imagine he could play out wide or up front? By all accounts he'll run all day, track back, make a tackle and hopefully and most importantly can score goals.
After what we're hearing about the Henderson deal I'm confident we can get this done for £1m + Poulsen and a signed photo of Antonio Nunez.
Jesus just watched that video of him vs. what is to fair the Arsenal youth team and the lad looks quality, unbelievable build for a young fellow, great workrate, very good technique, aggressive, brave, not afraid to get a shot in. He looks a snip at £10, for me. I'd seen some of him in the Euro U17s and he looked a class above most of the players on view. Get that bid in quick. Jesus wouldn't fancy playing against Carroll, this lad and Suarez on a rainy night in January.
He could be an excellent signing and he won't be expecting to jump straight into the 1st team straight away..An Ipswich Town supporting mate of mine reckons he's the real deal and they have already signed a couple of strikers so could be preparing for his departure.
The BBC are reporting Ispwich had put in a bid for Chops in the Box, So is this their replacement for Wickham already.
