    Anyone following this?
Im trying to work out what exactly the allegations are.
It seems Bin Hamman has been accused of trying to buy the WC for Qatar... but what about Jack Warner? Why has he been suspended? I've heard 'gifts' being mentioned:confused:
I was sure Blatter would not get re-elected but now he's able to run unopposed.
Theres been dirty politics within FIFA for years but its getting very public now.

It was the ethics committee that cleared him wasnt it?

Ethics & FIFA what a joke and amazing it all happens just before the elections and Blatter gets to be re-elected unopposed.

FIFA is very much run like Irish politics has been for last 30 years. Jobs for the lads, back handers and when the it hits the fan, they all blame each other.

Your dead right and I'd love a piece of the action.

Looking at the average age of the committee members it seems pretty obvious to me that a few of them won't last another 4 years so they decided to take 2 back handers instead of 1. Nobody really has the guts to speak about Russia in the same way they speak of Qatar but you can bet your last penny that if England where asked for "favours" then so where Russia, the Russians been as generous as they had no problems being very hospitable.

Blatter: No evidence received from Sunday Times, so no action on bribery allegations against Qatar 2022

As far as I can make out Blatter wasnt actually involved in this bit of shady business at all and was rightly found that he had nothing to answer. The corruption charges all start from the CONCAF area I think, and Warner and Hamman were nabbed offering 40k to the delegates there to vote against Blatter in the upcoming elections.

I have absolutely no doubt that FIFA make the Sopranno family look milky white and have numerous shady deals to answer for but in this single instance I dont think Blatter has a charge to answer.

just to point out I dont think that makes him any less a total muppet who couldnt run a lock in at St James Gate.

The mans a joke just like his federation.

Funny to see him preach about respect and attitude after being laughed at by a reporter. This coming from a man who laughed in the face of Irish supporters on national television two years ago.

Pity we had to wait till the english felt deceived for the can of worms to open.

The amount of coverage its getting on sky news now it's impossible to know whats happening in Libya.

Statement just released by the FA not a dickiebird though on the website of the FAI.

    http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/NewsAndFeatures/2011/FA-statement-fifa-david-bernstein

The Football Association Chairman David Bernstein said: “On 19 May 2011 The Football Association announced it would be abstaining in the forthcoming election for the FIFA Presidency.

“There were two main reasons for this decision. First, a concern, that a series of allegations relating to FIFA ExCo Members made it difficult to support either candidate.

"Secondly, a concern about the lack of transparency and accountability within the organisation, contributing to the current unsatisfactory situation.

“Events of the last few days have reinforced our views, and we call on FIFA and ask other national associations to support us with two initiatives.

“First, to postpone the election and give credibility to this process, so any alternative reforming candidate could have the opportunity to stand for President.

“Secondly, to appoint a genuinely independent external party to make recommendations regarding improved governance and compliance procedures and structures throughout the FIFA decision making processes for consideration by the full membership.

“This has been a very damaging time for the reputation of FIFA and therefore the whole of football. To improve confidence in the way the game is governed at the very top, we believe these requests would be a positive step forward and the minimum that should take place.”

Simple fact is that world cups are the single biggest event any country can host, bigger than olympic games, its worth billions to the chosen host countrys economy. Whan you put that kind of economic power into the hands of so few there is ALWAYS going to be shady dealings.

ALL we need/want is an open vote with each delegate giving details of the reason for their vote, and how they used FIFA's own criteria to come to their decision, I think that would deffo make it more transparent.
I remember 3/4 years ago the English bid team had to choose 2 stadiums in London as apparently you cannot have more than two per city.... yet Qatar will have 6 in one city!

While I agree that its an outrage that Russia was chosen above England, and even moreso Qatar getting 2022. I dont think the FA would be as Rightous (Sp) if they had won the bid??
the English FA are just as bad if not worse. Did they not wine and dine the delegates, offering them Olympic games tickets etc to get their vote???

100% agree. The English should not be applauded for taking the moral high ground on this. As i said before, its a pity it had come to them feeling aggreived that FIFA has finally been exposed for the joke of a federation they are. Complete gutting and overhaul of needs to happen with full transparency but we wont hold our breath.

How long has that clown been president for anyway?

I know there would be no class in kicking a man while he is down, but I would love to see the FAI come put with a negative statement out about Blatter too. I'd love to see the Quatar 2022 WC reviewed, I'd much rather a WC in the UK

If that election goes ahead today it will be the last shred of credibility out the window for FIFA.

By all accounts in the media today the FAI are set to back Sepp Blatter in the election. I know even if they came out now and said they are opposed to him it would make no difference but morally I think they should. It’s not as if opposing Blatter would affect us anyway, we’re such a small country that we get screwed either way by UEFA or FIFA.

There is no way Blatter should be heading up an organisation as huge FIFA. It’s shown to be corrupt and he’s the top man, he can’t keep his house in order so he has to go.

If FIFA have accepted bribes in awarding the WC to Qatar in 2022 then they’ve effectively defrauded some of the biggest Governments in the world, Governments who have spent millions in preparing their bids. There is no accountability in FIFA either, nobody knows what salary Blatter gets paid and he is under no obligation to reveal his expenses.

There was a real opportunity here for change for good in world football but too many associations, Ireland included, have bottled the opportunity.
