Been speculation however not the most reliable yet but this guy is definitely sparking a lot of conversions and prayers on other LFC forums. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/media-watch/liverpool-agree-fee-with-star-despite-madrid-link Personally i would prefer Fabio to any other left back we are currently being linked with. He's an established international, had a very good world cup. would link up well with Meireles and bring much needed stability at LB and provide good width and good crossing.. What are people thoughts on this guy or their preferences for the LB position?
This lad caught my eye at the last World Cup. Quality Player but am not sure about that transfer fee.
I am in Portugal at the minute for ten days & I heard the Coentrao link yesterday. Would love to see it happen if there was any chance.
Lucky you man! leave us know if you hear anything a bit more concrete than speculative transfer websites. cheers and enjoy the hols!
Concerned about the huge fee for a player with less than 20 caps for his country and less than 2 full seasons at a big club in an average league. Look at Luiz. Huge price, great going forward but very haphazard defensively and in their biggest game of the season taken off at half time. Would prefer Enrique for a more reasonable fee
If it means that the left back position is going to be taken care of for the next 7 or 8 years then 25 million doesn't seem like that bad of an idea. If its true I'd hope to hell we are going after a decent CB as well because Johnson & Coentrao on either side would leave some smashing holes.
i think enrique would be a better option he is more reasonable and has already done it in the prem league.we ll have jack robinson too coming through over the next few years
The thing I find funny is, for years people were giving out that we didn't spend big on players, and bringing in the middle class. Now we have money, and people don't want the big signing they want the middle class. In a list of the worlds best left backs Enrique doesn't feature on the page. Whereas Coentrao would be up there as he is in form and is exciting and young and wanted by every club worth their salt. Just saying
If we have either Coentrao or Baines in our starting 11 for the 1st game of the season I'll be a very happy man.
1st time I seen this lad play was in the world cup and I'm sure the commentator said he's usually a center midfielder, any truth in this?
Fair point and i would agree in principle with it if we were looking to just improve the odd position but when you need 5/7 players i don't think 25 mill on one position is viable. Don't get me wrong if we get him i'll be delighted, just a whole lotta money for one player when the squad as a whole needs works and we're not man City.
Id agree. 25 million for left back is crazy, its like lescott etc. I want us spend but reckon for a top left back you shouldn't have to spend more than 12 million. Money better spent on likes of mvila, that is if we have any money- the previous regeime has thought me to be cautious with my hopes
I think the last 5/6 years have educated us all more than we could ever appreciate in relation to spending and the "value of money", as the oul lad would say. We have all seen how we've been burned in recent times with players who haven't justified their fees, Keane and Aquilani on one level, Babel and Dossena on the level below that and going further back, Diouf and Diao While we are all delighted that there is far more substantial funds behind the club now, it doesn't mean that we should pay over the odds on potential rather than certified talent. Great to be linked but I for one don't want us to indulge in reckless spending
would love him to join us..but real madrid are linked to him aswell...so as much as id love him i think enrique is the option were more than likely gonna get...and not taking a swipe at any of the lads but if you think everton are gonna sell baines to us then something clearly aint working upstairs
I don't want to go off topic but every time I see Enrique play he seems very poor at the back. I like Coentrao but he seems very over-priced. I disagree that full backs are necessarily in the 12 million bracket. Look at Zhirkov, Bosingwa, Glen etc
Left back is a position we badly need to fill and we need quality. Fabio Coentrao is a quality player who would do a great job for us. He would slot in quite nicely but a fee of £26m plus is just a little steep. I would imagine that the fee would be closer to the £20m if he moves but is that money well spent for a club who don't have bag fulls? We have been linked with others in that role and Sakho and Baines would be a much cheaper option. We need a further centre back, left back, central midfielder, two wide men and a striker so we need to splash out. I just can't see the majority of the cash going on a left back. The talk is that Real Madrid or circling and they don't normally hang around so maybe agent talk.
If he is the right player and I think he could possibly be then I'm not going to get caught up in what the price we have to pay. We all know NESV have money but they are no mugs so I wouldn't be getting too stressed if we are overpaying slightly for the RIGHT players. Same goes for all our targets. I had enough of being a trainee accountant under the last regime. Like Carroll9 if Coentrao or Baines start the season at left full I too would be made up.
