OTR understands that Prince will be playing Malahide Castle in Dublin on July 30 as part of a lengthy European tour. We assume that this is the gig which Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell was refering to in his tweet yesterday – OTR reader James D mentioned a Prince show in Dublin on July 30 last week, so thanks to the tweeting TD for letting us know the venue. Prince was last due to play in Ireland in June 2008, but we all know how that infamous show-that-never-was at Croke Park turned out in the end. We hope that Dinny the cat will still be chilled when Prince turns up to play in July. UPDATE: per report in today’s paper, tickets for this Greatest Hits show go on sale on Friday at €89.50 a pop. It will be Prince’s first Irish show since he played the Point in 2002 (which was an amazing show). Unlike Prince’s previous Irish shows, which were promoted by MCD, the promoters for the 35,000 capacity Malahide Castle shindig are POD Concerts. And unlike that Croker gig, this show is part of a fairly lengthy European tour. Fcuk me 90quid!
Wouldnt pay a tenner nevermind 90. I'd say that must be a good venue for a gig though? Nice neck of the woods out that way
I remeber when he came in 2008 and i was working with a couple of Girls who were going to it. They were dead excited about it and couldnt wait. When it didnt happen they were fcuking devasted and promised they would never go see him again. Also they had quiet alot of hassle trying to get their money back from MCD over this. I dont know what the out come was in the end.
Saw the Arctic monkeys out there a few years back. Good gig. Dont know why they dont use it more often.
Its only up the road from me and I was at that Arctic monkeys gig too, it's a very good venue and as you said I can't understand why its not used more often. Although Prince.....no thanks
prince recently settled out of court i heard, they summonsed him in vegas too and it was a 1m pay out,if what i was told is accurate.
Pay 90 notes to go see Prince (a "has been") ... LMAO Ticket prices went crazy about five years ago and they are long overdue to come back down a bit ... whatever about paying that for a top name act, no way in hell we should be asked to pay half that, for yesteday's artists ! As an aside, the price of the tickets does explain why absolutely everyone plus their granny wants to tour, including a visit to Ireland, these days - it's only when we all stop buying the tickets, that this nonsense will come to an end.
What do you mean by the markup price mate ? All said and done, I seriously struggle to believe that the promoters and artists are not making a packet out of each concert that takes place here in Ireland.
Everyone marks up their price to make a profit. Otherwise there would be no point doing it. Again I have heard that the insurance costs are very high. But ticketmaster also add on silly costs for the tickets as well.
