I serious doubt there is any truth in this, Friedel is at the very end of his career and am sure will want to play as much as he can before he retires, personally I think he is way to good to be a number 2, still has a lot to offer.

If he is coming back to us, then it must be a case of him wanting to win a few things, before he retires ... good signing, though I'd fear 2 years is the absolute max we can hope for.

Personally, I'd like us to have secured Foster, if possible, though I imagine he's determined to get first team football and he'd not be first choice with us - no doubt himself and Given will be the two prize keepers that teams will be chasing this summer, unless we look at the continent.

Personally i dont see the point in signing a 40 yr old, even as a stand in for Pepe.
Hope there`s not a bit of sentimentality going on here...

So Brad and Downing to us. Young to whoever, Villa are really going to struggle next season.

That would make alot of sense if that was the case as he has had coaching schools set up in the states.Nothing wrong with signing him as back up as he is still a good keeper and would be a good role model also.

why!?! What is the point signing a 40-year old for maybe 3 or 4 games unless something happens to Pepe, for what would surely be still pretty high wages. Crazy signing along the brad jones level.

One thing that came into my head when I heard the story was if he is now eligable as ahomegrown player as hes been in the uk for so long. According to trucker he is so, we would effectively get another homegrown player into the squad, as well as a good experinced back up for Pepe. thats if theres any truth in it of course

Maybe it has something to do with him being inifinitely better and more experienced than what we already have as cover at the club!?I know he's got a fantastic injury record but God forbid something happened to Pepe early next season-who do you want to stick in goal Gulacsi,Brad Jones or Friedel?Who would you rather have between the sticks for the Carling Cup games?Jones is a nice bloke but isn't good enough.Gulacsi is completely untried at PL level and will only improve by going out on loan instead of sitting on his hole for another year.I'd be delighted if we signed Friedel.

Great potential signing. He must be one of the top 7 or 8 goalkeepers in the Premiership. I'd take him in a heartbeat if he's content to be back up.

Why would he want to be 2nd keeper , especially with Reina a ever present NO1.

Id ,love him as back up , but why would he want to be NO2

    ??????
Were offering a longer contract than any other club ? , so best having more money guaranteed than been a no 1 elsewhere

He's skint and at his age can probably only get a 1 year contract elsewhere. If there's a 2 year contract at a top club with a view to a job as a goalkeeping coach when he's finished and a promise he'll play all cup games then it mightn't look too bad from his point of view.
