A 16-year-old is fighting for his life after being attacked following an Airtricity League game at Tolka Park. The teenager, from Blarney, Co Cork, is in an induced coma after being seriously injured in the incident, which followed the match between Shelbourne and Cork City in nearby Tolka Park. Emergency services responding to the call thought at first he had been run over by a bus, so severe were his injuries, the Herald understands. Gardai at Fitzgibbon Street station are investigating the assault, which has left the teenager in a critical condition. The incident was at a bus stop across from Kennedy's Pub on the Drumcondra Road just before 10pm last night. It is understood a group attacked some Cork supporters and initial reports said the teenager was hit with a bottle. He suffered a serious head injury. His older brother was left with a bloodied face. Gardai were last night trying to unravel the sequence of events which left the boy lying on the ground seriously injured. critical An ambulance was called to the scene and the injured teen was put on oxygen before being rushed to the Mater Hospital where his condition last night was described as critical. The attack reportedly involved up to 10 people. The teenager was part of a coach load of young fans who had travelled to Dublin from Cork to watch the Airtricity League First Division fixture at Tolka Park. Shelbourne and Cork City had just played out an 1-1 draw in the top of the table clash, and it is understood the Cork fans were returning to their mini-coach when the incident occurred. Gardai were late last night still at the scene, which was sealed off pending a forensic investigation. Torn clothing and a large spattering of blood could be seen from the roadside. The teenager's shocked fellow fans looked on in disbelief as gardai cordoned off the scene. Locals drinking in nearby Kennedy's and Fagan's pubs spilled out onto the street as news of the attack spread. "We just came out and saw a young guy lying motionless on the road before being taken away by ambulance," said one. http://www.herald.ie/national-news/football-fan-16-fights-for-life-after-attack-2647298.html Shocking stuff this. I hope this young lad is okay and makes a full recovery.
With a bit of luck security cameras will have picked up one of the scum"s faces . That lad did not merit being left in that state - jasizz , his brother must have been in some panic . Hate this stuff .
I agree with you also but so called fans just going out to a game to make trouble is what I mean should not be in the same bracket as fans who go to enjoy the game itself...
Scum bags,. But this is the world we live in,. Like when you go out to enjoy yourself on a Saturday night, you can spot the lads that are only out for a fight. Pure scum the lot of them.
Really sad to hear about this..hope the young lad will be ok... Unfortunately there is some scumbags that go to games, just look for trouble..hope they catch who done this.
I agree and these Fans shouldnt be let near any kind of sporting event at all. Its a disgrace, that you cant go to watch a sport and have to worry about been attacked. The clubs need to work along with the Police and the league and FAI to get these "Fans" banned.
Good chance these Shels "fans" weren't even at the game. Used to happen in Drogheda, scumbags that were barred from the ground would still turn up looking for a row. Absolute scum hope they catch them and the young fella pulls through.
Bit of bad publicity for the league once more....Fcuking great... Hope the young lad pulls through and the culprit be caught, don't let this tarnish the name of Shels or the league though, while there is no place for this thuggary i believe both sides were at it, god help the poor lad though..
Thats the problem. Its not one group looking for trouble... more often than not its both sides. As you say, bad publicity for the league. If lads want to have punch ups, fair enough.... meet up somewhere, throw a few slaps and go home hurting. But almost kicking some young lad to death under the pretence your a football fan? F*cking scum.
Was at the game Friday and have to say didn't see anything out of ordinary but got there justbefore kick off and drove home Just the usual banter but this is a disgrace and I'm ashamed these are being linked with Shelbourne Last night went over to Tallaght for Setanta cup final as had four free tickets. Just before the game there was a running riot where rovers jumped Dundalk fans just after they came off the square footbridge Seen at least 2 arrests and two lads needed treatment for gushing head wounds Ended up walking round to front gate and giving all four tickets away to fans in q to buy them LOI fans (me included) give out about lack of support After the last two nights and seeing it again first hand, will question how any new fan would want to go near the LOI
i was on the drogs messageboard earlier and one of the lads was at the game and said its a bit different from the herald article that was quoted in the thread over there.basically he said it was fans from both sides were looking for a row after the match and the chap that got injured got a bit too macho and ended up isolated.not that it makes it right and i really hope he pulls thru.theres an element around a lot of clubs in LOI and its generally young lads that took green street and football factories a bit too serious so they need to cop on
