So what are peoples thoughts on Liz and Obama coming over next week?

Going to be some amount of disruption (http://www.garda.ie/Controller.aspx?Page=7349)

Seen the Gardai two weeks ago sealing the man holes on the quays near Guinness

I have to say that i think there will be trouble when your one comes, the garda will get the brunt again as the Love Ulster farce few years back but cant see this one going off peacefully

What the fook is the point in bringing The Queen over ffs. She's 80 something years old. Doubt she needs the stress of it all. It's going to cost a fortune and provides an excuse for idiots to act the muppet.

    Where's the bloody point?

She wont be within ear shot or visual sight of any protest the whole time she is here

€25m is figure apparantly for the two visits - could get alot done in this country with that money

We have next door neighbours at home we despise, but im not going to spend a fortune and invite them in for a BBQ so why bother bringing this old bag over?

Think she's a dickhead an dunno why she'd be advised to come here or why she's want to. Clearly it's gonna cause murder as some people are gonna be thinkin of her country's illegal occupation of this one and not welcome her and cost a fortune to keep her safe. Money this country hasn't got. I don't personally know one person who thinks it's a good idea.

As for him, well it's gonna cost money for him too so I'd tell him to stay where he is.

I'm just hoping it doesn't disrupt my bus to college cos I've got exams!

I can definitely see there being some trouble next week when the Queen arrives. Personally, I don’t see the point of her coming over. I’ve no doubt the bomb scare at Connolly station yesterday was a dry run to test the reaction times of the emergency services. Not looking forward to commuting in and out of town.

To be honest I think there’s more important business for our Taoiseach and his cabinet to be giving their full attention to and I’d be far happier if they were working out realistic ways of reducing our deficit than sitting in the convention centre at a Mary Byrne concert or admiring the horses at the National stud.

Too right.. Like keep me mum's job open for a bit longer which looks after disabled people. Goin to their houses an gettin them dressed an takin them out an whatever, rather than leavin them sittin in all day long waitin for home help to get them up an then put them to bed.

I'd say things like that are a bit more important than 2 visits.

I think the visits are great...a bit of positive news for our country to be beamed into into our two biggest tourist/economic markets...whatever is spent in security will be recouped many times over...hopefully the loopers wont spoil things.

12 million euro on the Queens visit. I dont see how we're going to make that back, let alone "many times over" but i might be wrong

I see where your coming from but what picture do you think it will paint of our country when they see the likely protests (which im pretty certain will get out of hand)?

I've absolutely no objections to the queen coming on a moral level(except maybe for the money it's costing). He'll of a lot of disruption though. I can't even take my kids to creche on Tuesday because she'll be in the area. The security alerts are a pain in the hole aswell, causing just as much disruption. Hopefully though it does help tourism because anything that helps create or protect jobs is more than welcome in my eyes. Could have a negative effect too I suppose if an incident happened or protests were highlighted, baring in mind Britain accounts for 50 percent of our visitors.

I doubt it, i think the money it brings in wont make up the money thats goin out with security etc for her visit and if it does it wont be much.

As said above that money could be used for so many more things that this country badly needs.

Its a joke that it takes something like this visit for the country to start cleaning up towns etc that she will visit, if she was to walk into any hostipal i bet there wouldnt be any people on trollies etc waiting to be seen to.

Think she is just doin it so she will be remembered for her visit etc, just been selfish if you ask me.

Was at Cork airport last week and they where installing all these camera's in and around the area as she is flying home from there, more money.

    Fully agree.
I couldnt care less one way or the other and have no problem with her either.

But as you said there its the practicalities of it all. Or lack of.

her and Obamas visit will be beamed all over the UK and USA (our two biggest tourism areas) of course it will have an affect on tourist numbers.

It has to be good for tourism, particularly the Obama visit as alot of people over there will get exposure to Ireland where they might not previously.

I dont agree with the queen coming over for one reason, it gives a certain scummy element an excuse to disrupt the peace.

An 80 year old figurehead will be used for all sorts of "republicans" (i use the term extremely loosely) in celtic and Ireland shirts to run amuck in the city.
