Has anybody got it ?
Whats the verdict ?
Have the 2007 version but haven't played it in a while, find you go through phases of playing it for a while then having a break etc.

Have it on the PC, good game fairly hard. Got Ireland to the World Cup Semi's in 2010 getting beat by all teams Mexico...after beating the likes of Holland and Germany along the way.

Great game. Just make sure you patch it. Retail version is buggy as heck. It's the best "feeling" FM to date in my opinion.

Anyone have any tips on how to do well with Liverpool in this game? Can't seem to get a good run of results going. Need a formation that works!

After a lot of socialising and boozing over the last of couple months, I am taking a break for next six weeks to recharge the batteries.
35 quid invested in FM 2008 today will keep me out of trouble for a while. About the same price as a round on Stephens day

It's an excellent game without doubt.
Its a bit more involved than the 2007 version but not overly so and is pretty realistic........Liverpool very inconsistent.....lol

I started out with them and its so like real life its unreal after first season. 4the in the Premier League and Semes of Champs League. Vorinin and Kuyt could not hit a barn door with Riise lowest average rating. :p:p:p
Managed to get 10 million for Momo though :D:D:D
This game has done my nut in since I got it, consigning it to the scrap heap for the next few months!

You are getting as bad as Roy Keane.:)

Just find it a bit too tedious to be honest. You go through all the rubbish at the start with pre-season which can take up to 2 hours if you like, find a super tactic that will beat Chelsea away 4-0 one week, then lose 0-2 at home to Derby the next  Plus playing it deprives me too much of being on this site ;)

Just after playing two seasons of it there over the last week or two just trying to get my bearings.
Definitely seems harder than FM 2007.
Liverpool can be quite inconsistent, I am struggling to find a formation I like and seems to work because as soon as one formation seems to do the business it goes pear shaped.
Anyway going to start a new game of it now as Liverpool (again).
Reading the FM 2008 forum, some people put so much effort into the game.
Changing tactics, formations, players instructions all for each individual match.
I just pick a formation, don't really mess with player instructions or even training and just get on with it.

First two games, I did not make any signings and got the sack at xmas. Nest time I sold Sissoko, Alonso, Crouch, Kuyt and Pennant. Brought in Keane, Riqelmue, Owen, Bentley and Burdisso for less money, finished second. Take note Rafa :D

Can anyone tell me if these games have become easier to play, I use to have them on the old xbox & ps2 and the controllers were too fiddly.
My brother plays this 4-5 hours a night on the hardest setting and is walking off with his league and last time I was home I wont tell you about the whopping I got given.

Ok,
I got the game yesterday, didnt know you could get it on the xbox mate ^^^^^^^
But anyway,PC is better tbh, BUT can you not simulate matches like in the manager mode in fifa ??
I tried fast forwarding it but i gor sick of it after 7 minutes against Red Star Belgrade in my first friendly lol:o:o
Also its very hard to sign decent players and the budget we have is terrible. 10 million ??!!!!

You can increase that to over £20m by adjusting your budget. Its a tough game to play - I've gotten back into over the past few weeks but lets just say Rafa is doing a better job than I ever could.

I have come second a few times, however once I make signings, change tactics to try and improve, it falls apart. Think need to take the long term approach. I signed this young DM Ivan Banega from Argentina, straight into first team ahead of Masher and Alonso.
For those who are interested, the 2nd and final patch for this game was released yesterday.

It was the old xbox, gave all my games away when I upgraded so I cant confirm that as I used to get every footie game out despite being sh!te at them.
Doesnt sound like Id be any good at this either.

It sure does. And a revised base transfer budget of $55m  The new patch also incorporates a "chairman loan" of £247m until 2029.

I got it friday..bit late on this I know. Have to say got sick of it after the first day..then not wanting to quit and delete it completely I started over again as villa. Managed to sign modric, sol cambel and vjarnes (croation MD i think) Had a great start, then just got completely hammered..went out in the 3rd round replay to preston in the fa cup ffs. then cambell was getting sent off left right and center.
Beat arsenal 2-1 and then lost to blackburn. I then got fired 2 weeks into February.
Restarting with Villa again and got really into signing better staff, unknown players (although its almost impossible as they often refuse the contract after the initial fee has been agreed, particularly the younger ones.)
Also got some great training schedules for specific positions.
I recommend starting a game with villa, you get 15mill if you want a top half finish, obviously title challenging will give you more..think its around 30 million to spend.
Really interesting game although I don't see myself playing it too much too often.
Heres a list of top young defenders I got.
Mamadou Sakho d <--- amazing LB but really hard to sign at the start as he keeps refusing the contract.
Breno
Sergey Ignashevich <--- likewise with the contract, although mid 20's his stats are amazing
Alessandro Tuia
Marvin Angulo rb
Armand Traore lb
dm
Banega (boca)

yeah might give this another go over the summer, normally i stay away from the prem sides and start with a championship team, did it with coventry and had a great team that got promoted via play offs, left it there. might try with norwich city, before the update 8 02 Danny webber was top class in the championship, he will be in the reserves at sheff utd and should get him for 1 million, loads of goals between him and mifsud.

I would take FM over FIFA and Pro Evo any day, espically in one player mode. Its not about playing games, it about tactics, buying and selling players. The matches just get in the way :D :D:D:D

if u really wanna do well and are having trouble u can edit the database . u can edit player stats and a clubs budget u can give your club loads of transfer funds but dont give them all of it for transfers because that puts you in administration

I might pick it up over the next few days. Sounds like good craic. I got a bit hooked on the manager mode of fifa 07 on the pc last year. I prefered starting with championship or lower sides and then building up. Not quite the same after the first time. You'd instantly remember the young prospects to buy cheap early on and mould into superstars.
Does championship manager have the option to buy a free transfer and then sell in the same window for millions of instant profit? Classy managerial skills of course :D. Also, is there any way to just generate an instant score for a match or do you actually have to watch/play the whole simulation? Cheers guys.

Just finished my frist season as valencia boss.
Finished 3rd, 6 points off madrid and 1 point off barca. I beat them away 2 nil and drew at home, wasn't able to beat madrid who knocked me out of the spanish cup.
I got this great tactic on the sign games forum. Kimz tactic. its basically a 4-2-3-1. Very effective. I didn't buy any players at the start as valencia are cash stapped.
team was mostly.
-------morientez/zigic-----
--silva/vicente---joaquin/silva---villa/angulo
----------sunny/baraja--albelda/edu---
---moretti-----abliol---morchenna---miguel
----------------canizares---------
silva ended up been my top scorer with 24, nando with 17 and joaquin and villa chipping in aswell with miguel and my two DM players sunny and albelda.
got trounced by porto in the first knockout round of the CL but other than it was a good season.
i will get alink for that kimz tactics file. Its fantastic. Also never realised the importants of half time team talks.
