I am the coach of my local youth team, between the ages of 8-12, i myself am only 23 so i still have a lot to learn, im very interested in the Ajax method of training players and what no so as i was reading about them, AGAIN, the other day, i stumbled across this article by a journalist from the New York Times, its nine pages long but it is an unbelievable read and really gives an insight into the mentality and the facilities and some of the things that go on in De Toekomst — The Future( the name of the Academy). id advise anyone who knows anything about soccer or ever dreamed about playing professionally to give this article a read. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/magazine/06Soccer-t.html
Just read it, it's a great read, some scary stuff in there too,. With the set up over here, its no wonder how I'm not a pro-footballer,.
Its scary alright the way they make it seem like a job to some of them, but you cant argue with the success it brings and like your man says about them being successful today, if they had all their own players like De Jong, Babel, Heitinga, Van Der Vaart and Sneijder they'd be some force then
Add to that Van der Vaart, Zlatan, Mido, plus the present crop. Going after the 5 year old too,. Talking about body fat and all, very surreal.
Same in mid to late 90's with ajax, as soon as the bosman ruling came in they lost quality players for nothing, a selling club is all they are now. Unreal academy and great philosophy on how ther game should be played.
