Read this on lunch yesterday and If you have time later this is worth a read Its extract from Paul Mersons book, im not a fan of him at all but sounds like he lived some life
Merson is as thick as sh*t. My son has a theory that you should back against everything he says, and going by his gambling record he might well be right.
He's talkin b0ll0x I reckon. "England were up against the Dutch that day and I knew quite a few of the boys at the ceremony wanted to watch it, but my mind was on Scotland. They were playing Costa Rica and, at odds of 2-7 on, I fancied a big flutter, so I got my best man to put a £500 bet on for me before I got hitched. I was up and running for the day. That night, I sat on the edge of the marital bed as Scotland were humiliated 1-0 by the worst team you’d ever seen in a World Cup. It was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives and I was gutted." Those games were on different days - England played Holland on the Saturday and Scotland had lost to Costa Rica on a Monday.
Yep spot on. That was the Monday before England v Holland on the following Saturday and then Ireland drew with Egypt on the Sunday. He's definitely got his wires crossed there.
Scotland Played Costa Rica on the 11th of June, and England played Holland on the 16th of June, so he's even more wrong
Cannot stand Paul Merson. I'd imagine alot of what's in his book has been exaggerated by the ghost writer. He's had more opportunities and money than I could ever dream about and has blown the lot. I struggle to have smypathy for him.
This actually sounds like a bit of crack We’d drink a glass and then take one of Gaz’s sleeping tablets; the game was based on stamina. Whoever stayed awake the longest won and scooped up a few grand in bets. We played the game a few times while Gazza was living with me. It’s a miracle it didn’t kill one of us.
