The first public same sex civil partnerships in Ireland have taken place. Dubliners Hugh Walsh and Barry Dignam were the first couple to publicise their civil partnership. The new law, which was enacted on 1 January, requires three months' notice to the General Register Office. http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0405/civilpartnership.html Congrats to them both.
Yeah good to see the country moving forward. Hopefully won't be long before they're given full marriage rights.
Great news, about time. It is not enough however. They support civil unions in Ireland (and advertised in GCN (Gay Community News) their commitment to such), however they are against same-sex marriage.
I'm sure it's just the old fashioned mentality within the party. No good reasons have been given for the denial of same sex marriages by anyone or any party. The worst argument I've heard recently was from some guy on Matt Cooper claiming that marriage should be the reserve of couples that can reproduce, and allowing same-sex marriage will result in declining child numbers (and child care (through adoption)) etc. Funny how the entire animal kingdom has managed fine to date without marriage.... Homophobia under another guise really. Stone-age politics. Democracy is a necessary illusion.
I think these Boys were on the Late late the other night, or one of those shows, and they said although they are married, Nothing really changes for them.Fair play to you. Was interesting to hear about them been offered everything for free by wedding planners and them turning it all down.
its only gonna really move on from here out.one sure fire way to get my dad in a rage is to start talking about norris going for president and i was in the father in laws yesterday when the two lads were on the news outside the registry office and he was highly unimpressed too.theres still a generation or two that will never accept it i think so its gonna be a while before the government goes all the way so to speak
I always hoped that meself and Denashpot would be the first. But then he hetero'd up and buggered off with some bird
