Reading the Herald today, There was a charity match in Santry yesterday and it reads as if McAteer was winding up Cluxton, they had words and some time later McAteer got a box in the face off Cluxton - the picture tells a thousand words, it looks like Cluxton Proper decked McAteer

Terrible Carry on at a Charity match but funny on some level :)
    Up The Dubs! ;)

heard he spent the whole game mouthing looking for a slap. Still stuff like this shouldn't be going on at a charity game..

Gilroy was heard saying hit away as there was no suspensions gonna be handed out!

You'll obviously believe your mate but I don't for a second believe that Cluxton's inter county manager (Gilroy) would encourage one of his top men to punch another player in a charity match, knowing full well it would make the papers and cause some controversy. He could be done for assault sure!

Unless of course, it was staged, as is being speculated and from looking at the picture it does seem staged, the picture is absolutely crystal clear and obviously taken with a steady hand, like as if the cameraman knew what was coming!

I think it was staged, heard something on the radio this morning, where they said that it appeared it was all set up for the crowd.

    Read this on another forum..
I was at the charity game yesterday in Morton Stadium. The incident was out of place for the game. This is how I saw it.
Cluxton tripped Mcateer deliberatly or not off the ball. Mcateer jumped up and squared up to Cluxton who was obviously not backing down. Mcateer headbutted Cluxton. Cluxton pushed Mcateer back and then hit out with his left. Mcateer went down again.
Both players got sent off. Mcateer attempted to get back at Cluxton several times as both were escorted off the pitch by several players.
Have to say Mcateer appeared to be in foul humour during the game having had tussles with other players.

I think it was said jokingly by Gilroy after cluxton had hit him..Basically saying he would be ok as he couldnt get suspended! I agree theres no way Gilroy would want one of his players involved in anything like that but I think it was all taken in good spirit in the end. It could have been staged too as there was a pretty good pic taken of it..

Legends won 4-3 I think. Alan Kennedy was supposed to be still in great shape and still very competitive

My guess is it was staged to raise awareness of Autism Ireland. Think about it, it's being discussed about and mentioned on numerous forums and in loads of newspapers today. If this incident didn't happen nobody would ever have known about the game and Autism Ireland wouldn't have gotten a mention.

I was a couple of hundred yards from Morton Stadium yesterday and never knew this game was on, no signage or advertising during the week or yesterday, didn't see or hear anything about it on the radio or twitter beforehand either. Would have gone and supported the charity had I known about it.

I think they might have messed up raising awareness beforehand so came up with the plan for the fight to at least get some publicity afterwards.

Bit too elaborate to raise awareness for autism. Im sure Autism Ireland wouldnt have backed it. My guess is it was real.
