Black British managers need extra help - Gordon Taylor

Paul Ince is one of only two black managers in England's top leagues
Black British managerial hopefuls should be interviewed for vacant posts as of right to tackle discrimination in football, according to Gordon Taylor.

The Professional Footballers' Association chief said he would back the introduction of a new regulation modelled on the NFL's 'Rooney Rule'.

Under this rule, teams must interview minority candidates for senior posts.

Paul Ince of Notts County and Chris Powell of Charlton are the only black bosses currently at league clubs.

Taylor told BBC 5 Live: "I find it astonishing that we can import the likes of Jean Tigana and Ruud Gullit and there's no problem, but our own lads who have grown up in this country have not been given a chance to be fairly represented."

Taylor said the 'Rooney Rule' had "without a shadow of a doubt made a difference" since it was introduced in the NFL in 2003.

"We have got to learn from other sports and other countries, and we saw how many top quality Black gridiron players there were and how few Black coaches," he said.

"But they came in with that rule and it's made a difference, and now it's become assimilated into the culture of the NFL."

yet another load of crap, from Taylor again! ....if your good enough, it doesn't matter what colour or creed a manager is....

WHY on earth should a club be essentially 'forced' to interview a managerial candiate of 'minority decent', even though he may not have the credentials, JUST to suit the 'PC's' of this world ! it's crazy stuff

I'm a minority, maybe I should apply, I'm a shortish- mediumsized-irish-half culchie, half dub-overly attractive-awesomely intelligent-blue eyed-brown haired- fifa playing-not afraid to get intouch with his feminine side-extremley handsome- mature beyond his years- semi geek/nerd- computer genius of a man.

Show me someone else that falls into that category. So where do i apply for these jobs, or when does that rule come into effect :D

At the end of the day you can interview 50 black people and 1 White person or 50 White lads and 1black lad it doesn't matter race or colour shouldn't come into it if your not good enough then tough what's the point of an interview for example if fsg where interviewing for Liverpool and it came down to ince Powell or the king where not picking the king because he is White it's because he is the best in saying the ince or Powell wouldn't get an interview because there not good enough just a waste of time

Most of the managers managing now would've played in the 70's and 80's (when 95% of players were white) so it makes perfect sense the nearly all of them are white, in 20 years there will be a much more even distribution of black & white. Taylor is a tiny bit of a spa.

I really detest nonsense like this. Up there with "there should be more women in the Dail". No there shouldn't. Every position should be open to every person capable of doing so, with the best candidate selected irrespective of race, color, creed, sex, sexuality or socioeconomic background.

Never mind the irony of Taylor being xenophobic...

Rooney rule is bizarre, as lots of teams know whom they want, or even have lines of succession in the NFL and interviews are surely then insulting to the minority candidate.

There are one or two examples of the candidate jumping out and grabbing the job though too.
