Democracy is so important ... we don't realise how lucky we are sometimes, do we (having said that, we could do with improving our own democratic situation a bit, having been too willing to trust our politicans over the years and not make them more accountable to the public) I hope that calm will quickly be restored to the Egyptian people and that others may learn from their example ...
Very good point mate, saw a recent news clip referring to the USA and the fact that Egypt had been a close ally, they now fear some opposition party will get in and the relationship with the USA, The West or Israel may crumble.
America and Israel will be more than happy to see Omar Suleiman take charge...Hes a friend of both. A milatary man, head of Egypts intelligence network..and one of mubaraks most trusted henchmen. Egyptians wont see much change, just a cosmetic exercise. All thats happened is mubarak has resigned, but his men and regime will take charge. Also.. one things for sure,Islamists wont be allowed to win any elections... if there is any.
Americas double standards..as always. When a dictatorship suits..say nothing, when it doesnt, kick and scream for regime change. Can all this unrest be surpressed? http://english.aljazeera.net/video/americas/2011/02/201121811024392608.html
Didnt want to start a new thread on but anyone being to Egypt on holiday? Any recommendations of where to stay/ what to see? Looking at going to sharm el sheikh and either day trip to Cairo or stay for few days there All depends on cost involved
paddy as far as im aware egypt has dropped dramatically in price because of the riots it has moved on quicker than tunisia but is still not over there the irish government havent removed the not to travel yet so its hard to know i would love to go to egypt the misses was there when younger she didnt like it said far to many russians for her liking but to be honest theres no F**king pleasing her i was going to look into going at the end of the year but for me ill wait and see how things develop over there
sharm el sheik is good especially if you like scuba diving, the old town is nice for an evenings visit too. you can do day trips to cairo. luxor and aswan are good too if youre more into seeing ancient egypt. stating the obvious but its hot there.....verrrrry hot
Only last week i was told no way would she go to Egypt cause of the troubles, she then hears the price and all of sudden its top of the list As for the department of foreign affairs advise, its same threat level as Thailand was for us last year and was nothing to worry about there in end Will try find out more myself before commit to anything Heard about the day trips and read about them online. Seems like long bus ride or else expensive plane trip for the day but going to go looking into it more
cant rememeber how much the flight to cairo cost but you can book them when you get over there, it may be cheaper then doing it before you go. there are a few flights every day from 6am i think.
Paddy just book it f k it sure whats the worse that could happen stay down in luxor near the pyramids and sure if anything happens when your over there sell your misses for a camel win win all round
i was in egypt 2 yrs stayed in the holiday village with falcon ,really enjoyed it and did the day trip to cairo to see the pyramids and museum , hotel was all inclusive which was great all food and drink included most of the hotels in sharm are i think , only thing i didnt like was the way the shopkeepers harass you trying to get the sale
