As most of you will be aware I am involved with boards.ie,the boss men over there have decided since the site is so big they should try and do a poll for the election.I think its a great idea and should be the biggest poll in the country as they have over 415,000 members.

Check it out and if you are a member vote,it will be interesting to see the results as most polls only have a couple of thousand people complete them.

    ******

Given the size of Boards.ie - 2.225 million unique visitors in January 2011, over 415,000 members registered, over 190,900 active, and over 28,700 people having posted on the site over 128,500 times in the last 7 days - we thought it would be interesting to see just how accurate we could be.

We've put together http://www.boards.ie/vote to see just how this might work

    Just done the boards poll

Ming way out in front. Younger voter's on boards? (Roscommon-South Leitrim)

I normally vote for politicians in reverse on the basis of who I dislike the most. This time it is going to be a struggle as I have major dislike of all politicians irrespective of party.

100 votes in Dun Laoighre so far....Hanafin languishing in 9th ;)

The aul lad is loving it here, going through the different constituencies. Although as he points out, it'll generally cover a younger demographic.

I'd be surprised if this isn't picked up by the media in the coming weeks.

I agree its going to get a bit of a younger voter but its going to be a huge sample especially a week or so in.If you look at the overall party numbers its surprisingly like the recent polls in the papers.

For anybody thinking of trying to vote in a number of constituencies, you can vote in any but only your last vote will count.

Great idea, just voted there. 102 votes cast, Lenihan is down 8/9 with just 2 first preference votes:eek:. Interestingly, Sinn Fein are the same thought they'd have a better show than that out here tbh. FG have Varadkar and Burton here they're running away with it, Joe Higgins could scrape a seat too

very unreliable tbh though.Factor in the demographic that uses boards, the age of the various voters and the fact that you can vote in any constituencies and not just your own.

Also Internet Warriors are great for anti ff/govt type but this doesnt include the aul wan down the road who the local ff/fg/lab td got her medical card sorted etc.

Interesting all the same,i wonder how the figures stack up to Prof. Adrian Kavanaghs predictions?

Serious amount of work put into that poll and it looks the dogs. Its an interesting idea but unfortunately not representative as has been said.

Derek Nolan (Lab) way ahead here in Galway West. He will do well and probably get a seat, but O'Cuiv is expected - regardless of what FF have done - to top the poll here.

I just hope that everyone that bothered to vote online will also do so on the 25th.

Love the 100 or so muppets that bothered to spoil their votes!

Good idea that. I'll keep an eye on that.

Shane Ross is walking it in Dublin South which sums up the country for me. Just like George Lee last time out the people just want a choice of someone different, someone who's da wasn't a TD before him, someone with kop on and they're own thoughts and ideas. A few more options are badly needed, when the posters started going up last week I felt seriously depressed for the future of this country. With the exception of Shane Ross its the usual heads again, seasoned politicians who know how to get elected but **** all else.

Never agreed with that. Lots of people who contribute to this country by paying taxes, doing stuff in their community, paying bin charges etc are very disillusioned with politicians in general and I fully understand their reasons for not voting. Don't forget,a lot of these people have been through the hard times before and played a big part in this countrys recovery decades ago. But even without that any citizen is entitled to expect to be represented well in their constituency and expect TD's to do their job in the best interests of the country. I'll probably get "people died for your right to vote" thrown at me,but it was for our right to vote, which means we have a choice. I will be voting but I respect anyones right to choose whether to vote or not.

I don't have a single politician I trust in my constituency. We as a people need a new alternative. But Fianna Fail have to go, they have to wiped out in this election and rebuild with new values and ideals (which they wont). The only reason I can see to vote is to vote against fianna fail and I dont know if thats a good enough reason.

I know there is no way a Fine Gael/Labour government would have done better, actually I think wed could have been in worse mess, hard as it is to believe. Still it seems they will win the election by default, so as I see it we have no real alternatives this time. Its a one horse race and we got to hope, all beit against hope it isnt a lame donkey
