on setanta yesterday when asked why he took off s/g beni said the game was gone. what he was saying was with nearly 25 minutes to go he had thrown in the towel. he also said you think of one game at a time; if this is true; why was he worrying about Tuesday night while half way through this game.
the premiership title is important to me. i want us to win it; even more then the c/l. win the prem. first and then as English champs go and become European champs; that's the way to bring back the pride that was once ours.:(

i don't think its throwing in the towel. But having a inform gerrard missing a massive match against man utd is unthinkable. Like when he did it against everton, for different reasons. But we won the match due to his decision of bringing on Lucas.
Rafa wants the league aswell, probably more than people think. If we beat man utd and arse and chel draw next sunday we will be only 5 points behind arsenal.
COME ON GET BEHIND THE TEAM PADDY!

take my word for it; no one including you wants liverpool to win more then me. as a born scowser i would claim that honestly. but when i think something is wrong; i dont think i should lie to myself or anyone else; but unfortunately sometimes people dont like what i believe.
under g/h we won 5 trophies in one or two seasons; but that was the worse thing to happen because it has set us back years, and now we will wait for at least another 2 3 5 years to once again embrace our glory.

good point paddy.he does always say take 1 game at a time, but it's obvious he was thinking ahead.that imo is not good.with 25 mins to go there was still time to get a point at least and maintain our unbeaten run.kewell had a decent effort fizz past the post and carra put a super ball accross the face of the goal that crouch norrowly missed.who knows what would have happened if stevie g was still on the pitch.he's in good form at the mo and the only 1 that looked liked scoring.
i wonder how much raffa's decisions are being swayed by the suituation that went on with the americans.he wants money, they won't sancition it,probably until we're sure of qualifing for the next stage of the champions leauge.so maybe it was 2 finger's from rafa in a way.it does appear he threw in the towell on saturday
i hope not but...................

it worries me also is he trying to make crouch look bad, i dont think he really likes him. i myself think he is such a benefit to the team when he plays; but beni only seems to bring him on because so many people call for it.
personally i thought crouch was very poor against reading, he's a decent player but he's no natural goal scorer.
In our current set of strikers we just don;t have enough killer instinct, torres has it but there are plenty of times crouch should take that chance and make a run in case the ball is whipped across but just stands

For what it's worth ...
I think Rafa wants either / both CL & Premiership. From what I can gather, CL brings in more dosh. Furthermore, Rafa seems more confident with CL tactics, than Premiership - eh, we lets hope so anyway.
Despite a less than perfect start to the two competitions this season, the reality is we are still in with a fairly decent chance of winning either / both, so for now I think everyone of us needs to back the team & manager - lets see how they do, before we complain too much etc. I must admit, I as much as anyone here, fell into this trap earlier this season and have had to claw my way back out ...
(btw, I'm not a big fan of the rotation system etc)

I don't think I've agreed with ya before IP but there's always a first time for everything :) The Champions League is great yeah but at this stage it's the League I really want to win. Other than the money implications of not getting out of the group tonight, sunday's game is more important to me.

Not true.
After winning those trophies, we beat the Cranks 5 times in a row. (we've paid for it since :( ) Then we finished in 2nd place. Then we went 7 points clear at the top of the PL. Then GH decided that at our next match at Middlesbrough, he wanted a 0-0 draw. It worked for 80 minutes. It took us 2 months to win another game. A good side doesn't become a bad one overnight, and those players were capable of winning a PL or two, and more trophies. The fact they didn't was down to catastophic coaching, and his rubbish tactics used on the pitch. We're still trying to clean up the mess, 5 years later.

It's a bit harsh on Houllier we all know he wasn't the same after the heart attack who would be. The man contributed to the club but we stagnated under him in the end, his time had come. His last act was to get us to the Champions League and sell Emile Heskey.
Before 2001/2002 season we have never been in the Champions League so he did contribute in a good way but he had negatives which we reflect on too much. He will still be fondly remembered as will most of our previous managers some more than others.
